The Indian government has launched Operation Dost, a continuing search and rescue effort, to provide support to Syria and Turkey following a destructive earthquake that struck both nations on 6th February 2023. The quake’s epicenter was located 34 km west of Gaziantep in Turkey.
Firat Sunel, the Turkish envoy, reported that India was among the first nations to provide assistance to Turkey after a devastating earthquake. On the evening of 6th February 2023, India dispatched teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to the affected areas in Turkey.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) sent a C-17 aircraft to Adana, carrying 47 NDRF personnel, 3 senior officers, and a specially trained dog squad. The aircraft was equipped with necessary equipment, including medical supplies, drilling machines, and other aid tools.
India also utilized its Garuda Aerospace Droni drones to survey the most impacted regions and locate individuals trapped under rubble. Modified Kisan drones were also utilized to transport medications, food, and supplies.
The NDRF teams were equipped with tools such as chip and stone cutters, which could break through concrete and other building materials to rescue victims, as well as radar for detecting heartbeats.
On 7th February 2023, the IAF sent two more C-17 aircraft to Turkey, which carried relief supplies, a mobile hospital, and additional specialized search-and-rescue teams. Along with the NDRF personnel, the Army Field Hospital based in Agra dispatched 89 medical staff, including critical care specialists and general physicians. The medical team had access to X-ray machines, ventilators, an oxygen generation plant, cardiac monitors, and other equipment needed to set up a 30-bed medical facility.
As of 12th February 2023, India has sent a total of seven C-17 aircraft to support the relief efforts in Turkey. On Sunday, the seventh flight of Operation Dost arrived in earthquake-stricken Syria carrying more than 23 tons of relief supplies. The materials were received by Deputy Minister of Local Administration & Environment, Moutaz Douaji, at the Damascus airport.

Officers Training Academy or OTA Chennai is a premier institute of Indian Army for training Men and Women into officers for the Short Service Commission into Indian Army. This institute holds a great importance as it has been giving able officers to Indian Army since a long time.
The difference between IMA and OTA is that while IMA trains men for Permanent Commission, all men and women for Short Service Commission are trained in OTA.
The Academy is located amid a sprawling estate of 650 acres traversed by River Adyar adjoining the Chennai International and Domestic Airport, about 15 kms from the Chennai Central Railway Station along the Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road in Chennai.
The history of OTA dates back to World War II, when seven Officer Training institutes established in India. However, these schools were closed down after the war. In 1962 after the war with China, India felt the need to establish Institutes to train more officers for Indian Army, two officers training schools were established as a result, one in Chennai (then Madras) and one in Pune. These Officer Training Schools (OTS) were established with the motive to cater officers for the emergency commission.

The first Emergency Commission (EC) course began with a complement of 442 young Indians. Their training began in this prestigious institution on 15 Jan 1963. Brig Ram Singh the first Commandant along with Shri C Subramaniam, the then Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries, formally inaugurated it with an inspiring speech that has proved prophetic time and again.
The Emergency Commission courses continued till April 1965 and EC–12 was the last course to pass out. When the Emergency Commission Courses were discontinued, OTS started training Gentlemen Cadets for Short Service Commission (SSC).
The scheme also included SSC Course (compulsory liability scheme) for Class I and II Gazetted Officers of the Central Government and Public Undertakings. The scheme ended in 1968 when SSC courses for Technical Arms and Services were introduced.
In the seventies few essential infrastructural developments like Swimming Pool, Auditorium, Science Block and Laboratories, Drill Square, Cadets Mess; Weapon Training sheds were created to facilitate GC’s training.
Renaming of OTS to OTA
In 1985, the institution was granted permanent status and proposal was sent to convert the School to an Academy. The much awaited approval from Army HQ was received on the New Year’s Eve.
A Special Sainik Sammelan was held on 01 January 1988 in the auditorium as a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations, where Maj Gen N Vishwanathan, the then Commandant, announced this significant re-naming from OTS to the Officers Training Academy (OTA), placing the Academy at par with the Indian Military Academy and the National Defence Academy.
With due course of time, when women were taken in Indian Army as commissioned officers, OTA has trained them as well into able officers of Army. The first batch of women consisting of 25 candidates was trained by OTA Chennai, the training began on 21 September 1992. OTA excels in providing real life atmosphere for training. It is well equipped to train officers for Counter Insurgency operations giving a real jungle lane shooting range and grenade lobbing area.
Officers for all kinds of job who have been appointed for SSC are trained here, be it administrative jobs, technical jobs or JAG entry etc. OTA has been an honor for India, giving able officers to the Army. It is indeed a dream of many to join this institute, keep working hard as dreams do come true!
Reservation in the Indian Army refers to the system of affirmative action that provides reserved quotas for certain socially and economically backward sections of society in the recruitment process. This system aims to ensure that underrepresented groups have equal opportunities in education, employment, and other areas of public life.
However, the Indian Army operates on a merit-based recruitment system, where selection is made on the basis of physical fitness, aptitude, and merit, without regard to caste, religion, or gender. This policy is in place to ensure that only the best and most capable individuals are selected to serve in the country’s armed forces and to maintain the high standards and professionalism of the military.
The Indian Army has consistently maintained this merit-based policy throughout its history, as it is essential for the effective functioning and operational readiness of the military. The nature of military operations requires soldiers to work together in a cohesive and coordinated manner, and it is essential that they possess the necessary skills, physical fitness, and mental aptitude to do so.
Moreover, the Indian Army plays a critical role in safeguarding the country’s national security and territorial integrity. It is essential that the military operates in a manner that is professional, impartial, and free from any form of discrimination. This is particularly important in a country like India, where the military is often called upon to operate in difficult and challenging circumstances, and where its actions can have far-reaching consequences.
In conclusion, while reservation is a critical aspect of Indian society and is essential for ensuring equal opportunities for all sections of society, it is not applicable to the Indian Army. The military operates on a merit-based recruitment system, where selection is based on physical fitness, aptitude, and merit, to ensure that only the best and most capable individuals are selected to serve in the country’s armed forces. This policy is in place to maintain the high standards and professionalism of the military, and to ensure that it can effectively fulfill its role in safeguarding the country’s national security and territorial integrity.
Short Selling is a trading strategy used by investors to profit from a decline in a security’s price. The investor borrows shares from another investor, sells them at the current market price, and then buys back the shares at a lower price to return to the lender and pocket the difference as profit. The short seller is betting that the price of the security will fall and they can purchase the shares at a lower price to make a profit.
Adani and Hindenburg are two examples of how short selling can impact a company and its stock price. Adani Group is an Indian conglomerate company that has faced criticism and controversy in the past, leading to short sellers betting against the company. In 2023, Hindenburg Research published a report alleging financial irregularities at Adani Group, causing the stock price to fall, and short sellers to profit.
On the other hand, Hindenburg Research is a well-known short-selling firm that investigates companies and publishes reports with negative findings in an attempt to drive down the stock price and profit from short selling. In 2021, Hindenburg published a report on electric vehicle manufacturer Nikola, alleging fraud and deception, causing the stock price to fall and short sellers to profit.
While short selling can be a profitable strategy for some investors, it also brings a level of risk and potential for market manipulation. Short selling can drive down the price of a security, leading to a negative impact on the company and its stakeholders. Additionally, if the stock price does not fall as expected, the short seller may have to purchase shares at a higher price, resulting in significant losses.
In conclusion, short selling is a trading strategy that allows investors to profit from a decline in a security’s price, but it also brings with it a level of risk and potential for market manipulation. The Adani and Hindenburg examples demonstrate how short selling can impact a company and its stock price.
The recruitment process for the Agniveers under the Agnipath scheme by the central government’s armed forces is entering its second phase. To prevent overcrowding at examination centers, a modified procedure will be implemented. Online applications for registration will be open from mid-February for a month, according to confirmed sources.
The selection process will begin with an online Common Entrance Exam (CEE) followed by physical and medical exams. Previously, the first batch of Agniveers was recruited through physical and medical exams before the CEE, but this time the order will be reversed. The first online CEE is scheduled to take place in April 2023 across approximately 200 locations in India.
The revised process will place a greater emphasis on cognitive abilities during the selection process, according to official sources. This change will also aim to reduce the crowds at recruitment rallies and increase outreach across the country.
The Agnipath Scheme was introduced in June of last year to recruit personnel for the “other ranks,” including soldiers, sailors, and airmen, for a four-year term. After the four-year service, the personnel will have to leave, but a re-induction process will be held to select 25% of them to serve as a permanent cadre of the armed forces.
Guns laws in India are governed by the Arms Act, 1959 and the Arms Rules, 1962. The act regulates the manufacture, sale, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition in India. The main objective of the act is to control the availability and use of firearms to ensure public safety and reduce criminal activities.
According to the Arms Act, a person must obtain a license to purchase, possess, or carry a firearm in India. The licensing authority is the concerned district collector or the Commissioner of Police. A license can be granted for self-defense, sports, hunting, or employment purposes. The licensing authority has the discretion to grant or reject a license application based on specific criteria, such as the applicant’s background, age, criminal history, and mental health.
The Arms Act lays down the following categories of firearms in India:
Prohibited Bore firearms – These are firearms with a bore of more than 12.7 mm and are not authorized for civilian use.
Non-prohibited Bore firearms – These are firearms with a bore of 12.7 mm or less and can be used for specific purposes with a valid license.
Who can carry a gun in India?
Law enforcement officials – Members of the police force and other law enforcement agencies are authorized to carry firearms while on duty.
Armed forces personnel – Members of the Indian armed forces can carry firearms while on duty.
Private security personnel – Private security personnel who have been issued a license by the licensing authority can carry firearms while on duty.
Sportspersons – Sportspersons who have obtained a license for the purpose of sports shooting can carry firearms while participating in shooting events.
Hunters – Hunters who have obtained a license for hunting can carry firearms while hunting.
Others – Individuals who have obtained a license for self-defense can carry firearms for self-defense purposes.
It is important to note that the licensing authority can revoke a license if the holder violates any provisions of the Arms Act or if the holder poses a threat to public safety.
In conclusion, guns laws in India aim to regulate the availability and use of firearms to ensure public safety. A person must obtain a license to purchase, possess, or carry a firearm, and the license can be granted for specific purposes. Law enforcement officials, armed forces personnel, private security personnel, sportspersons, hunters, and individuals with a license for self-defense are authorized to carry firearms in India.
“Success ke baad ka plan sabke paas hai, lekin galti se fail ho gaye toh failure se kaise deal karna hai koi baat he nahi karna chahata”. This is a famous dialogue from the movie Chhichhore. In this world of competition and rat race, one has to be more practical than just being positive.
Many people aspire to join the greatest fraternity and wish to serve the nation, but people unable to join forces are more in number. Many of us have experienced what it feels to get screened out, conference out or like me multiple times merit out. We don’t like this feeling at all and we do not wish to have such experiences.
If not Armed Forces then what? Here is a list of things you can do while preparing for defence or you may consider it as a concrete back up option. In this case, your second option should be stronger than your first option.

A small tip here, update your profiles daily even if it includes adding or removing a full stop. Chances of getting a job through online websites are however slim. Try
getting a good breakthrough your contacts or jacks- something that works best
in India. Starting salary in private companies is going to be less, but you
have to start somewhere. Focus on learning in the initial phase, it will create
a stable base for your career pyramid. You also have the option of higher
studies if you wish to make a career in a specific field
4) Start something of your own
It can be anything that interests you. For that, you have to think deep
about what you enjoy doing. It can be as simple as learning creative DIY
projects and selling them on Instagram. For example painting wine bottles,
making candle holders, paper chandeliers, dream catchers, etc. It can also be a
fitness app, a YouTube channel of good and knowledgeable content. Cooking and
traveling vlogs are a growing trend nowadays. You can also start taking home
tuitions or register yourself for online teaching on websites like Vedantu,
UrbanPro, Unacademy. Make use of your knowledge that you have acquired while
preparing for written exams.
4) Business
If you have good business ideas, courage to take risks, and surrounded
by the right people, you can think out of the box. Understand the demand and supply
of the product or service that you intend to give. Do a proper survey and
understand what the target audience wants. Professional organizer, Food truck,
T-shirt printing, or anything else. You can read the book “Start with Why” by
Simon Sinek or watch Sandeep Maheshwari videos related to “how to start a
business” on YouTube
5) NGOs
There must be many NGOs working in the place you live. Ask around and
find NGOs that interest you. There are many NGOs active in health care,
education, women rights, micro-entrepreneurship,specially-abled children,
mental health, etc. Helping people gives another level of satisfaction. Working
with them will help you build a good network of people.
6) Affiliate marketing
Amazon is the most popular platform for affiliate marketing. It is often
combined with blogging to create a seamless mix of content and promotion. You
have to get yourself registered as amazon associates, then you advertise
products from amazon on your sites by creating links that redirect to the amazon
site. When a customer clicks on the link and buys that product from amazon you
earn referral fees. With some knowledge of digital marketing and by using
google analytics you can earn well. This can also be a great secondary source
of income.
7) Other competitive exams – Such as civil services, Bank exams, CAPF, CRPFs, etc. If you still have patience and energy to study more, you may consider this option. But again you should take a calculative risk.
You have to change your goals sometimes. No profession offers you the kind of life Armed Forces offer. Getting into the Armed Forces may be an important part of your life but it is not your whole life. I am not saying be less ambitious but “Sahi wakt pe kat lena chaheye”. There are many things you can do outside, you just have to keep your horizon wide. If you are a person who volunteers for selfless service, then you will definitely bring value to any work you do. Preparation for defence, hard work you have put in, your talent will never go waste, you certainly stand out from the crowd. Even if because of any reason you don’t get into defence, you deserve to be successful and have a good life.

Adani vs. Hindenburg is a recent high-profile showdown between two of the biggest names in the investment world. Adani Group, a conglomerate based in India, and Hindenburg Research, a US-based short-seller and activist investor, have been locked in a battle over market stock since Hindenburg released a report in 2023 alleging that the company was engaging in fraudulent activities. In this article, we will examine the events leading up to this clash, the arguments put forward by both sides, and the potential impact of the outcome on the Indian stock market.
Adani Stock Controversy
Adani Stock, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprise, is one of the largest companies in India. In Jan 2023, Hindenburg Research released a report alleging that the company was engaging in fraudulent activities, including inflating revenue, misstating its cash balance, and hiding its debt levels. The report was widely circulated and sparked a sharp drop in Adani Stock price. Adani Enterprise issued a public statement denying the allegations and calling the report “baseless.”
Adani’s Response
Adani Group has taken a strong stance against Hindenburg’s allegations, calling the report “baseless” and “an attempt to manipulate the stock price.” The company has also taken legal action against Hindenburg, claiming that the report was defamatory and damaged its reputation. Adani also called off its fully subscribed FPO on 1 Feb 2023.
Hindenburg’s Counterargument
Hindenburg, for its part, has stood by its report, calling it a “thorough investigation” that uncovered “compelling evidence” of fraudulent activities by Adani Stock. The short-seller has also pointed to other recent controversies involving Adani Group, including allegations of stock price manipulation, as evidence of the company’s questionable business practices.
Impact on the Indian Stock Market
The Adani vs. Hindenburg showdown has captured the attention of investors and the financial community in India and abroad. The outcome of this battle will likely have a significant impact on the Indian stock market and the reputation of Adani Stock and Adani Enterprise. If the allegations made by Hindenburg are proven to be true, it could lead to further losses for Adani Stock and could damage Adani’s reputation and ability to secure future funding. On the other hand, if Adani’s allegations of defamation and manipulation are proven to be true, it could have a negative impact on Hindenburg’s reputation and its ability to conduct future short-selling campaigns.
Conclusion
Adani vs. Hindenburg is a high-profile showdown between two of the biggest names in the investment world over control of stock market. The outcome of this battle will have a significant impact on the Indian stock market and the reputation of Adani Stock and Adani Enterprise. Regardless of the outcome, it is important for investors and the public to remain vigilant and to thoroughly research and analyze all investment opportunities to ensure that they are making informed decisions.
