A retired Lieutenant Colonel booked by the Army for misuse of uniform

0

A retired Lieutenant Colonel is under investigation following a complaint by the Army for allegedly misusing his uniform and violating social media guidelines, according to ThePrint.

Lieutenant Colonel, who retired on 6 August, was observed participating in a podcast on social media the day after his retirement.

As per regulations, once officers retire, they are not permitted to don their uniforms. Intriguingly, while he retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was spotted wearing a colonel’s uniform, which is a rank above his and one he wasn’t entitled to wear during his service.

The formal complaint was registered on 29 August at the Ludhiana Police Station, citing IPC Section 140. This section forbids anyone who isn’t a military personnel, including those from the Air Force and Navy, from wearing service uniforms.

Furthermore, he allegedly breached Paragraph 666 of the Army Regulations (2010 edition).

Earlier in May, the Army’s Additional Directorate of Discipline and Vigilance had released a notice cautioning former military personnel against any actions that could compromise the integrity of the armed forces. The notice specifically advised against the misuse of uniforms.

The Army emphasized that any breaches could lead to penalties such as withholding or revoking pensions and the potential filing of police reports.

It is the gateway for candidates aspiring to join the Indian Air Force as commissioned officers in various branches, including Flying Branch, Ground Duty (Technical), and Ground Duty (Non-Technical). The AFCAT exam evaluates candidates’ aptitude in verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, and general awareness. With a limited number of vacancies and intense competition, it is crucial to have a well-planned and effective preparation strategy to crack the AFCAT exam in your first attempt.

Importance of proper preparation

Proper preparation plays a pivotal role in succeeding in any examination, and AFCAT is no exception. The exam covers a wide range of subjects and requires a thorough understanding of the exam pattern and syllabus. By investing time and effort in preparing for the AFCAT exam, you increase your chances of scoring well and securing a position in the Indian Air Force. Adequate preparation not only helps you gain knowledge but also boosts your confidence, reduces exam anxiety, and enhances your problem-solving skills. Therefore, it is essential to follow a structured study plan and implement effective preparation tips to crack the AFCAT exam.

AFCAT Preparation Tips

AFCAT exam pattern and syllabus

Before diving into the preparation tips, it is crucial to familiarize yourself with the AFCAT exam pattern and syllabus. The AFCAT exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and is conducted online. The exam comprises four sections: General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test. Each section carries equal weightage, with a total of 100 questions and a duration of two hours. The syllabus includes topics such as current affairs, history, geography, sports, English grammar, comprehension, fractions, profit and loss, time and distance, and spatial ability. Understanding the exam pattern and syllabus thoroughly is the first step towards effective AFCAT preparation.

Tip 1: Understand the exam pattern and syllabus

To crack the AFCAT exam, it is crucial to have a clear understanding of the exam pattern and syllabus. Analyze the previous year’s question papers to identify the weightage of different topics and the type of questions asked. This will help you prioritize your preparation and allocate time accordingly. Make a list of the subjects and topics that you need to focus on and create a study plan based on it. Ensure that you cover all the sections and topics systematically to have comprehensive knowledge and maximize your chances of scoring well in the exam.

Tip 2: Create a study plan and stick to it

A well-structured study plan is the backbone of successful AFCAT preparation. Divide your study time into specific periods for each section and subject. Allocate more time to challenging topics and subjects that require extra attention. Set realistic goals for each study session and track your progress regularly. Create a timetable that suits your learning style and commitments, and make sure to stick to it religiously. Consistency is key when it comes to AFCAT preparation, so make sure you follow your study plan diligently.

Tip 3: Practice previous year question papers

Practicing previous year question papers is an excellent way to familiarize yourself with the AFCAT exam pattern and gain confidence. It helps you understand the type of questions asked, the difficulty level, and the time required to solve them. Set aside dedicated time to solve previous year papers and simulate exam-like conditions. This will not only improve your speed and accuracy but also highlight your strengths and weaknesses. Analyze your performance, identify the areas where you need improvement, and work on them accordingly. Remember, practice makes perfect, so make solving previous year question papers an integral part of your AFCAT preparation strategy.

Tip 4: Take mock tests and analyze your performance

In addition to solving previous year question papers, taking regular AFCAT mock tests is crucial for effective AFCAT preparation. Mock tests simulate the actual exam environment and help you assess your preparedness. They provide a real-time experience of the exam and help you manage time efficiently. After taking a mock test, analyze your performance and identify the areas where you made mistakes or struggled. Focus on improving those areas by revisiting the concepts, practicing more questions, and seeking clarification if needed. Mock tests not only enhance your subject knowledge but also boost your confidence and reduce exam anxiety.

Tip 5: Focus on improving time management skills

Time management is a critical aspect of cracking the AFCAT exam. With a limited duration of two hours and a vast syllabus to cover, it is essential to manage your time efficiently during the exam. Practice solving questions within a stipulated time frame to improve your speed. Identify time-consuming topics or sections and develop strategies to tackle them effectively. Learn shortcuts and time-saving techniques to solve numerical and reasoning questions. Regular practice and time-bound mock tests will train your mind to work under pressure and help you complete the exam within the given time. Focus on improving your time management skills to maximize your chances of success in the AFCAT exam.

Tip 6: Stay updated with current affairs and general knowledge

General awareness and current affairs hold significant weightage in the AFCAT exam. Stay updated with the latest news, national and international events, sports, science and technology, and other relevant topics. Read newspapers, magazines, and online news portals regularly to stay abreast of current affairs. Make a habit of noting down important events and revising them frequently. Enhance your general knowledge by reading books, watching informative videos, and participating in quizzes or group discussions. A strong foundation in current affairs and general knowledge will not only help you score well in the AFCAT exam but also contribute to your overall personality development.

Tip 7: Stay motivated and maintain a positive mindset

Preparing for a competitive exam like AFCAT can be challenging and demanding. It is essential to stay motivated and maintain a positive mindset throughout your preparation journey. Set realistic goals, celebrate small victories, and stay focused on your long-term objective of cracking the AFCAT exam. Surround yourself with positive and like-minded individuals who support and encourage your aspirations. Take breaks, indulge in hobbies, and engage in activities that help you relax and rejuvenate.
