Formation and Structure of Indian Army
Command: The Indian Army operates six operational commands and one training command. Each command is led by a General Officer Commanding-in-Chief with the rank of Lieutenant General. These commands directly report to the Army Headquarters in New Delhi.
Division: Each Division is headed by General Officer Commanding (GOC) in the rank of Major General. It usually consists of 15,000 combat troops and 8,000 support elements. Currently, the Indian Army has 37 Divisions including; 4 RAPID (Re-organized Army Plains Infantry Divisions) Action Divisions, 18 Infantry Divisions, 10 Mountain Divisions, 3 Armored Divisions and 2 Artillery Divisions. Each Division composes of several Brigades.
Brigade: A Brigade generally consists of around 3,000 combat troops with supporting elements. An Infantry Brigade usually has 3 Infantry Battalions along with various Support Arms & Services. It is headed by a Brigadier. In addition to the Brigades in various Army Divisions, the Indian Army also has 5 Independent Armored Brigades, 15 Independent Artillery Brigades, 7 Independent Infantry Brigades, 1 Independent Parachute Brigade,3 Independent Air Defence Brigades, 2 Independent Air Defence Groups and 4 Independent Engineer Brigades. These Independent Brigades operate directly under the Corps Commander (GOC Corps).
Battalion: A Battalion is commanded by a Colonel and is the Infantry’s main fighting unit. It consists of more than 900 combat personnel.
Company: Headed by the Major or Captain, a company comprises 120 soldiers.
Platoon: An intermediate between a company and section, a platoon is headed by a Captain or Lieutenant, or depending on the availability of commissioned officers, even a junior commissioned officer (Subedar). It has a total strength of about 32 troops.
Section: Smallest military outfit with a strength of 10 personnel. Commanded by a non-commissioned officer of the rank of Havildar or Sergeant.
The army operates 7 operational commands. Each command is headed by General Officer Commanding-in-Chief with the rank of Lieutenant General. Each command is directly affiliated to the Army HQ in New Delhi.

JAG 32 Educational Qualification
Minimum 55% aggregate marks in their LLB Degree (three years professional after graduation or five years after 10 plus 2) examination.
In addition, the CLAT PG Score of the preceding year is mandatory for all candidates (including LLM qualified and LLM appearing candidates) who apply for courses starting in a particular year. The candidates should be eligible for registration as an advocate with the Bar Council of India/State. The candidate should be from a College/University recognized by the Bar Council of India.
Short Service Commission will be granted to Male and Female in the regular Army for 14 years i.e. for an initial period of 10 years extendable by a further period of 04 years. Male & Female officers who are willing to continue to serve in the Army after the expiry of period of ten years of Short Service Commission may, if eligible and suitable in all respects, be considered for the grant of Permanent Commission (PC) in the 10th year of their Short Service Commission in accordance with the relevant policies as issued from time to time. Those SSC officers (Male & Female) who are not selected for grant of PC but are otherwise considered fit and suitable, will be given options to continue as SSCOs for a total period of 14 years (including the initial tenure of 10 years) on expiry of which they will be released from the Army.
Period of Probation: An officer will be on probation for a period of 6 months from the date he/she receives his/her commission. If he/she is reported on within the probationary period as unsuitable to retain his/her commission, his/her services may be terminated any time whether before or after the expiry of the probationary period.
JAG 32 Training
The duration of training is 49 weeks at OTA, Chennai.
Selected candidates will be detailed for Pre-Commission training at OTA, Chennai according to their position in the final order of merit, up to the number of available vacancies, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.
Candidates will neither be allowed to marry during the period of training nor will he/she be allowed to live with parents/Guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training at the Officers Training Academy. A candidate, who marries subsequent to the date of his/her application, though successful at the Services Selection Board interview and medical examination, will not be eligible for training. A candidate if he/she marries, while under training, shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him/her by the government.
All candidates who successfully complete Pre-Commission training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai will be awarded ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies’ by University of Madras
Fixed Stipend for Cadet Training: ₹ 56,100/-p.m.*
*On successful commissioning, the pay in the Pay Matrix of the Officer commissioned shall be fixed in the first Cell of Level 10. The period of training shall not be treated as commissioned service. Arrears on account of admissible allowances, as applicable, for the training period shall be paid to cadets.

JAG 32 Selection Procedure
Shortlisting of Applications. Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) reserves the right for shortlisting of applications, without assigning any reason. After shortlisting of applications, the Centre allotment will be intimated to candidates via their email.
After allotment of Selection Centre, candidates will have to log in to the website and select their SSB dates which are available on a first come first serve basis initially.
Thereafter, it will be allotted by the Selection Centres. The option to select the dates for SSB by candidates may be forfeited due to occurrence of any exceptional circumstance/events.
Only shortlisted eligible candidates will undergo SSB at Selection Centres, Allahabad(UP), Bhopal(MP), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Kapurthala (PB).
Call up letter for SSB interview will be issued by respective Selection Centre on candidate’s registered e-mail id and SMS only.
Allotment of Selection Centre is at the discretion of Directorate General of Recruiting, IHQ of MoD (Army) and No request for changes will be entertained in this regard.
Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure. Those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II. Those who fail in stage I will be returned on the same day.
Duration of SSB interview is five days and details of the same are available on official website of Directorate General of Recruiting i.e, www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.

On Saturday, the Indian Army found itself in a situation where it had to release 12 militants associated with an armed Meitei group.
This decision was made due to the presence of a large mob consisting of over 1,200 people in the Imphal East district. The Army’s Spear Corps justified this action by stating that it aimed to prevent any unintended harm to civilians amidst the ongoing unrest in the state.
The conflict between the Meitei and Kuki ethnic groups in Manipur has resulted in the loss of more than 100 lives, with over 300 people injured and thousands displaced since May 3. The violence erupted following a protest march by thousands of individuals opposing the majority Meiteis’ demand to be classified as Scheduled Tribes.
On the day in question, security forces initiated an operation in the village of Itham, establishing a cordon in the area. During this operation, the Army successfully apprehended twelve members of the Meitei militant group known as Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup. These individuals were found in possession of arms, ammunition, and other military supplies. Notably, among the detainees was Moirangthem Tamba, also known as Uttam, who had been accused of orchestrating an ambush on an Army unit in 2015 resulting in the deaths of 20 soldiers.
Despite the Army’s successful operation, their progress was impeded by a mob consisting of approximately 1,200 to 1,500 individuals, primarily led by women. These protesters surrounded the area and prevented the security forces from proceeding with their operation.

Military Nursing Service MNS 2023 Notification – Indian Army has released the notification for Applications inviting FEMALE CANDIDATES (only) for MNS Batch 2023. MNS 2023 written exam is likely to be conducted in June 2023 across the nation.
Subsequent to passing the final year University examination for B Sc (Nursing) Course, the candidates will be offered Commission in the Military Nursing Service subject to medical fitness. The date of declaration of results from respective Universities will be the date of the Commission for the candidates. Military Nursing Service Exam 2023 Eligibility Criteria:
(a) Female candidates who are unmarried/divorcee/legally separated/widow without encumbrances.
(b) Nationality: Citizen of India
(c) Date of Birth: Born between 01 Oct 1998 and 30 Sep 2006 (both days inclusive).
(d) Educational Qualification: Candidate must have passed the FIRST ATTEMPT, Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or equivalent (12 Years schooling) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany & Zoology), and English with not less than 50% aggregate marks as a regular student from a Statutory/ Recognized Board/ University/Examining Body. Candidates who will be appearing for the final year of the qualifying examination during the current academic session may also apply provisionally. The candidates finally selected for the course will have to submit proof of passing the qualifying examination with requisite subjects and marks before joining the course.
(e) Physical standards: Medical fitness of the candidate is decided as per the medical fitness standards and criteria prescribed for grant of Commission in the Armed Forces as amended from time to time. The minimum height required for entry into Armed Forces for female candidates is 152 cm. Candidates from Hill and Northeastern States will be accepted with a minimum height of 147 cm.
Military Nursing Service Exam 2023 Selection Process:
(a) Shortlisting through NEET (UG score): The registration numbers (Reference No) of the candidates who are shortlisted for screening at a designated venue based on NEET (UG) – 2023 merit will be displayed at the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. The shortlisted candidates will be called for ToGlGE, PAT, Interview, and Medical examination at a designated venue. The admit card for the same can be downloaded from www.ioinindianarmy.nic.in.
(b) Verification of Documents: All shortlisted candidates will be required to produce all original documents as listed in the admit card at the time of the interview for verification. it is the responsibility of the candidate to be in possession of all original documents at the time of the Interview. The shortlisted candidates, if not in possession of documents as per eligibility criteria or at any stage of the selection process, if it is found that the information provided has been willfully concealed or misrepresented will lead to disqualification from the selection process/loss of candidature.
(c) Test of General Intelligence & General English (ToGlGE): The test of General Intelligence & General English (ToGlGE) will be in the form of a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of 40 MCQs of two marks each for maximum marks of 80. There will be negative marks of 0.5 for every incorrect answer. These 40 questions will be required to be answered in 30 mins.
(d) Psychological Assessment Test (PAT): The PAT is a qualifying examination and the score will not be considered for preparing the final merit list.
(e) Interview: The candidates will be interviewed by a Board of Officers at a designated venue.
(f) Medical Examination: All shortlisted candidates will undergo Special Medical Board (SMB) at a designated venue. Candidates declared FIT/UNFIT in the medical examination will be informed about their medical status, including the procedure of requesting for Appeal Medical Board by the President Special Medical Board.
Military Nursing Service Exam 2023 Vacancies:
The selected candidates shall execute an Agreement Bond to serve in the Military Nursing Service (MNS), Armed Forces Medical Services at the time of admission. During training, they will be provided with free ration, accommodation, uniform allowance, and monthly stipend as per terms and conditions as amended from time to time. On successful completion of the BSc Nursing course of four years, the candidates will be granted PermanenVshort Service Commission in the Military Nursing Service, under the terms and conditions laid down for the grant of such commission. In the event of withdrawal from the course, termination of training, or refusal to accept a commission in the MNS, if offered, they will have to refund the Bond money Agreement Bond executed.
The date of declaration of results from respective Universities will be the date of Commission for the candidates. The date of the Commission determines the date of seniority in service among all candidates who have joined the course in the same year. The commencement and completion of the course depend on the respective affiliated University norms.

Military Nursing Service Exam 2023 How To Apply:
(a) Interested candidates (FEMALES ONLY) may register through www.joinindianarmy.nic.in which will be accessible from May 2023. The candidates will be able to register ONLINE by providing their name, mobile number, email id, and other details. The scanned copy of the required documents also needs to be uploaded in the prescribed size and format. The candidate’s email id is the user id for this website and the candidate will select her own password. Candidates must remember their username and password for all future correspondence. Candidates are requested to make corrections to the filled application form using the EDIT menu and ensure all corrections are made before final submission. No modification in the application will be possible after clicking the SUBMIT button.
(b) All candidates (except SC/ST) will have to pay a sum of Rs 200/- only as an application processing fee through the ONLINE payment gateway. There is no application fee for SC/ST candidates. SC/ST candidates have to upload documentary proof. On successful completion of online payment, a bank reference number (DU Number) will be generated for the future correspondence of all candidates (except SC/ST) and a confirmation page will be displayed.
(c) Candidates may take a printout of the duly filled application for further reference along with the payment confirmation page.
(d) Once the process is complete candidates are provided with a provisional registration number (reference number). This number will be sent to the registered email id and phone number.

(i) it is the individual responsibility to ensure the successful payment of the application fee. Receipt of the DU number is not the criteria for successful payment; therefore candidates are requested (o make sure that the application fee is debited from the bank account for successful payment.
