Completed 12th? Defence Aspirant? Here’s What To Do Next

0
after 12th nda exam

Hello Warriors! Many of us start dreaming and deciding about our career while in or around class 8th. For some of those whose fathers are in the army, it becomes a necessity to continue the lineage of serving the nation by joining the armed forces. However, many do make it to schools like Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) or Sainik Schools which serves as a feeder institution for the National Defence Academy. And bingo! Here begins their career! The career in uniform!

But for those who didn’t know the opportunities of Sainik Schools or RIMC, they continue their studies and while they reach class 12th, they realise the necessity of making the dream come true. And even if they can’t make it to the forces, opportunities after graduation are also vast. In this article, I will be writing on the opportunities in the armed forces focusing on post completion of class twelfth or equivalent.

The first thing to remember while making a good career choice is setting your preferences, if one just wants to make money through their career, armed forces is not their correct choice. And if one is enthusiastic and adventurous, they’ll make their way to the forces anyway.

Introspect yourselves: What you demand of your career? Will you be happy in the field you chose? Will your parents/dependents support you? And moreover, what situation demands from you?

Joining the armed forces as a commissioned officer after completion of twelfth is not as easy as it sounds like but on the other hand, has the same number of opportunities to make it over there.

The first institute aspirants can prefer after twelfth is joining the NDA. Believe me or not, it is the best time to make it to the NDA merit list if you are recommended. Consider your studies throughout your 11th and 12th, and then preparing for those Board Exams, JEE-Mains, JEE-Advanced, AIPMT, NDA & NA and other competitive examinations. If you make it to one of these premier institutes in the first swipe, well and good. But if you don’t, you’ll have to study the same syllabi over again to write the exams again. Duh! Sounds pretty boring and unaffordable, right? But studying the same syllabus only once for many competitive exams, yeah, that one is a good deal! So, this is the case of a 12th class student-make it while you are in the good form and that’s why you are said to be in an intermediate stage of studies.

“Okay, not all are the same! Only 300-350 make it to the NDA, unfortunately, I’m not one of those, what next?”

Remember the preparations you did for you twelfth board exams. Good. If you have scored more than 70% marks in it, you stand a chance for facing the SSB directly. But remember, you were not the only one who aspired for NDA, many will consider this as an opportunity too and hence, the cutoff will simultaneously increase. The ideal marks to score for direct entries is greater than 85%. However, cut off will be decided every time depending on the applications. The most popular direct entries after 12th are Technical Entry Scheme (10+2) for army and B.Tech Direct Entry after 10+2 for Navy.

Even now, if after all these, you can’t make it to the army, navy or the air force, you can pursue your graduation and then join through various modes like CDSE, AFCAT, UES, etc. Joining NCC while pursuing graduation will not only make you make you stand a chance for direct entry but in the corporate world too, you are given preference over the others. after 12th nda exam

On a final note, I would like to conclude by saying that, do not aspire big for your career while you are in twelfth. Just concentrate on your studies. Study well and score well in 12th. After all, it’s all that matters in the following career journey of yours. For making yourselves up to the competitive levels, you can take crash course coaching in the gap between the completion of your board exams and your competitive exams. Believe me, it’s not that hard to crack it. Don’t think of how many are competing with you. Be confident in yourselves, at that very moment, at that very question you answer in the exam, try again and give the best you can. And always remember, an officer never says ‘Die’ in any situation.

Good Luck!

Captain Saurabh Kalia – The First Hero Of Kargil War

0
Captain Saurabh Kalia

Hello, Warriors! As the headlines today are filled with the justice that is being denied to Captain Saurabh Kalia, his father, Dr. Narinder Kumar Kalia has asked the Indian Government to move the case to the International Court of Justice. Captain Saurabh Kalia would have turned 39 years old by now. But he decided to lay his life for the motherland at just when he was 23 years old-when all the others of his same age were busy starting or planning their career.

  1. Born on 29 June 1976 at Amritsar to Mrs. Vijaya and Dr. N. K. Kalia, Captain Saurabh Kalia did his schooling from D.A.V Public School Palampur before graduating in (BSc Med.) from H. P. Agricultural University, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh in 1997.
  2. He was recruited from the Indian Military Academy in August 1997, and was later commissioned in December 1998.
  3. His first posting was in 4 JAT Regiment in the Kargil Sector, along with five other soldiers – Arjun Ram, Bhika Ram, Bhanwar Lal Bagaria, Moola Ram and Naresh Singh. He was promoted to the rank of captain while he was in the field area.
  4. Captain Saurabh Kalia was the first Indian army officer to observe and report large-scale intrusion of Pakistani Army and foreign mercenaries on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) at Kargil during the partol checks to occupy the summer positions.
  5. On 15th May, 1999, Lt. Saurabh Kalia and his men got engaged in a non-stop crossfire with the Pakistan Army across the LOC. Soon after running out of ammunition, they were captured by Pakistani soldiers and held in captivity for 22 days.Captain Saurabh Kalia
  6. Post-mortem examinations revealed that the Pakistanis had tortured them by burning their bodies with cigarettes and piercing the ear-drums with hot rods.
  7. Moreover the Pakistanis punctured their eyes before removing them, broke most of their teeth and bones, fractured their skulls, cut the lips, chipped the nose, chopped off limbs and private organs of the soldiers, and finally shooting them dead. This was corroborated by post-mortem reports after Pakistan handed the mutilated bodies to India on June 9, 1999. The post-mortem also confirmed the injuries were inflicted before death.
  8. After the clear violation of the principles of the Geneva Convention, a formal notice was submitted against those responsible. Part 2 Article 13 (General protection of prisoners of war) of The Geneva Convention states that, Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated. Any unlawful act or omission by the Detaining Power causing death or seriously endangering the health of a prisoner of war in its custody is prohibited, and will be regarded as a serious breach of the present Convention.
  9. However, Pakistan denied all charges of torture and held its stand of being not guilty. Moreover, the then interior minister of Pakistan, went on record to say that the Capt. Saurabh Kalia and others died of extreme weather conditions and that there was no evidence to prove whether they were shot or not.

Even while Pakistani militants captured Captain Saurabh Kalia and his party of five brave men from our side of the Line of Control and kept in captivity for over three weeks, subjecting to brutal torture as is evident from their mutilated bodies handed over by the Pakistan Army. Our young men did not break while undergoing unlimited barbaric torture. This speaks volumes of their inspiration, patriotism, tenacity and valour and the whole nation should be proud of them.

Pakistan Army Chief Raheel Sharif Warns India of ‘Unbearable Cost’ of War

Pakistan's army chief Raheel Sharif

Pakistan’s army chief Raheel Sharif has described Kashmir as the “unfinished agenda of the Partition” and threatened an “unbearable cost” of a “short or long” war.

Speaking at an event in Rawalpindi on Sunday, General Sharif said: “Let me reiterate that our armed forces stand fully capable to defeat all sorts of external aggression.”

The comments were seen as a direct response to Indian Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhaag saying last week that India has to be prepared for “swift, short nature of future wars” because of frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan and its “new methods” used to keep Jammu and Kashmir on the boil.

The Pakistan Army Chief said: “If the enemy ever resorts to any misadventure, regardless of its size and scale – short or long – it will have to pay an unbearable cost.”

Saying that innocent people were “subjected to injustice, atrocities in Kashmir”, General Sharif said: “Enduring peace is not possible without a just resolution of Kashmir. The issue can no longer be put on the backburner.”

The time had come, he said, for Kashmir to be resolved “in line with UN resolutions.”

At an event in Delhi to commemorate the same war, the Indian Army chief had said that the borders were live and active because of frequent ceasefire violations and infiltration bids by Pakistan.

“We are acutely aware that the swift, short nature of future wars are likely to offer limited warning time – this calls for maintaining very high levels of operational preparedness at all times,” said General Singh.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions over cross-border firing between Indian and Pakistani troops.

National Security Level talks between India and Pakistan last month were cancelled at the eleventh hour amid major disagreements over the agenda for talks. India said the ceasefire violations and attacks by Pakistan-based terrorists must be discussed but Pakistan insisted that it would raise Kashmir.

The Army’s northern command GOC on Monday confirmed the life sentence awarded to six army personnel, including a colonel-rank officer, by a general court martial in the 2010 Machil fake encounter case, an army official said.

“General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C), Northern Command, Lieutenant General D.S. Hooda has confirmed the sentence of a Summary General Court Martial in the Machil encounter case,” Colonel S.D. Goswami, spokesman of the army’s Udhampur-based Northern Command, told IANS here.

“Colonel Dinesh Pathania, Captain Upendra, Havildar Devendra Kumar, Lance Naik Lakhmi, Lance Naik Arun Kumar and Rifleman Abbas Hussain have been awarded life imprisonment,” he said.

In April 2010, the army had claimed killing three guerrillas in Machil sector on the Line of Control in Kupwara district during an infiltration bid.

There was a public outcry after photographs of those killed in the alleged encounter were released, as relatives and neighbours of the slain persons claimed that the three civilians were framed and killed in a stage managed gunfight and they were not connected with militancy in any way.

Police investigations later proved the three civilians were lured with promises of jobs and taken to the border where they were killed in a fake encounter for money and rewards.

The army later ordered a general court martial that found the six army personnel guilty.

India and China: Race for Dominance

0
India-and-China-Race-for-Dominance

India and China share a long history and are nations with well-coordinated relations. Their wide relations and cooperation’s have made peace and harmony on both sides. But there are many sectors and fields where both the nations are tracking each other. India has registered its name in the race for the tag of being a superpower and emerging as a developed nation. Well, if we watch around our neighbors, China and Pakistan are the competitors of India and China is progressing rapidly in several fields. But there are some fields, where India leads ahead of China.

Recently, a report revealed that India is lagging behind China in the race of energy markers. The report says that China has five times more energy capacity as compared to India and every household in China has access to electricity, whereas in India it is just 56%. About 25% of Chinese household use biogas for cooking while 85% of India’s rural population use biogas.

In the same way, when it comes to the emission, China holds the score of one-fourth of the emission while India counts just 6% of total emission, which is one-fourth forth to that of China’s emission. Because of this, China has committed that it will generate 20% of its energy from renewable resources and will reduce about 60% of carbon dioxide level by 2030. Well, India’s attempt to match up with China on INDC is said to be a setback for India’s economy. But sources revealed that ministries have opposed the statement.

China is going through economic slowdown and according to the sources, India will get benefit of it. Recently, stock crash in China indicates the situation of crisis and will boost investment in India with more pace of economic strengthening in India’s economy. Experts are judging this situation as in India’s favor.

Some other comparisons also judges the performance of both the nations in economic and defense fields.India-and-China-Race-for-Dominance

In the race of holding nuclear weapons, China is ahead of India and even Pakistan is ahead of India. China has more than 200 nuclear weapons and Pakistan has 110-120 nuclear weapons. Well, some more stats states the main comparison among the countries. China gives more share of GDP for military as compared to India.

Some issues of non-agreement are present between both the nation. Like China’s intrusions in India, China’s string of pearls project, China’s help to Pakistan in military establishment and many more are there, which makes the relation a bit sour. Recently China has termed India’s step of oil exploration in south China sea as illegal.

Competition is the law of nature and it makes the progress. India and China have the potential to be on the top of the list. But it’s not good to leave a field and focus on another for showing the dominance or development.  One should focus on the sector which is necessary for it and its people. China and India are almost closer in all fields and India’s act east policy. Emphasizing on development is better for India by analyzing the need, not the comparison.

Factors Behind Achieving Your AIM

0
Indian army officers

With the increase in competition and competitors, aspirants from various fields have to face failure because of non-directional approach. There are many factors that affect your AIM. Well, there is a well-known quote which states that “If better to Fail than not to try”.

Captain Manoj Pandey, PVC once wrote in his diary  “Some goals are so worthy, it’s glorious even to fail“.

Check out the following points that can help you in achieving success.

Passion and Blind Approach are far Different

  • Most of the people are very much possessive about their aim. Repeaters have met many people who are not passionate to join army but are following it blindly. Ask yourself, are you fit for the job or not. Everybody is fit for different jobs and if you are not then try to be.

Aim should Always be in your Mind

  • Whenever you do anything, always keep your aim in your mind. With your aim embedded within your mind, take your actions accordingly.

There is a well known quotation which states that “Dreams are not those which appears when you sleep, but dreams are those which don’t let you to sleep.

Time is Unrecoverable

  • Don’t waste your time in un-necessary task. Rather utilize it in those task with high priority. Saving time does not means that stop playing sports or avoiding outings. It means don’t waste time in the works that are not beneficial to you anyhow. Manage time according to the need and importance.

Think about Solving Problem, not about Creating more Problems

  • Approaching the aim is the task where you will face several problems and obstacles. Major or minor, your first task should be to solve them. Never get involved in fragmenting more problems from them. Make your own plan to solve them and remember them as an experience in future.Indian army officers

Know the Requirements and Inculcate them

  • It’s not simple to get through your aim. First of all, you must know what is required in you for getting into it. Most of the times, what people do is they try to copy the successful people. STOP COPYING. Qualities can’t be copied. Everybody has a different way to handle his/her personality and respond according to your qualities. So inculcate them instead of copying them.

Higher the Post, more will be the Responsibility

  • All aspirants, who are doing dedicated efforts to achieve their aim must know that, higher the post you are approaching, more will be the responsibility and tougher the selection process. The responsibilities may differ in different fields. So prepare accordingly.

Hardwork overcome Luck

  • If you are approaching the aim delicately, then don’t depend on luck. Luck only helps those who works hard. It’s better to leave then to depend on luck. Work hard and smart to make your way from the crowds and achieve what you want.

At last I want to tell you the last point,

‘If you run behind two rabbits you won’t catch either.’

The verdict of this statement is that always approach single aim at one time.

ssb interview experience

Before introducing myself, I am very grateful to #SSBCRACK and a very special thanks to SSBCRACK for giving a right platform for all Defense aspirants to clear SSB. I am TARUN KAUSHIK, B.TECH (ECE) 2011-2015 batch graduated from MDU ROHTAK (HARYANA), I belong to Jhajjar in Haryana. I’m very desperate to join Indian Armed Forces as an Officer and recently on 31 July 2015, I recommended for assistant commandant in Indian Coast Guard by Coast guard selection board Noida. When my turn came to go inside, I was very confident and was keep smiling inside the room. IO asked me why I am smiling. I replied that I have done well in all the three testing and very much confident about my selection this time. The president of the board also asked a question “What Steps should be taken according to you to improve the sex ratio in Haryana”.  I also replied it with facts and some data.

The conference was over. The result was ready. We were waiting for the result in examination hall. After sometimes, Psychologist came with result. Before announcing the result, he gave closing address by motivating all the candidates. After completion of it, he started announcing chest no. those who got recommended. He started like Chest No. 3, 4, 9 …43, 44… 50……….. Mine was 44, I was just**********what to say****** I have no words to express that moment after a struggle for almost 5 years for SSB which started from OCT. 2010 came to an end. A total of 17 out 63 got recommended for Assistant Commandant in INDIAN COAST GUARD.

My tip is: Only keep doing hard work, God will definitely help us.

Myths and Tips of AFCAT

11
afcat preparation tips

Hello Future Soldiers, How are you? I am back. For those people who don’t know me, can read my earlier article at this link: https://ssbcrack.com/2014/08/afcat-exam-preparation.htmlRemember, you must read the above article before reading anything further.

How’s your preparation going on? I know this is the peak time as the exam is right there at Sunday. Many of you might be getting panic and some might have completed the syllabus and started revision. Anyways don’t worry.

Today I won’t give you any special lectures on how to prepare and what and what not to read. I would tell you some of the myths aspirants generally have and some tips which can be helpful in your coming exam.

5 myths about AFCAT:

  1. Working in Indian Air Force is like working in another government organization – Remember this is not the case. Although IAF is a government organization, the work is a little bit different from other Government Bodies. I have many friends in IAF and they tell me that it’s NOT the JOB, but the SERVICE towards your country. So, if you have that passion towards your country, then only appear for this exam. Even if you are selected in this exam, you can be easily expelled during your SSB Interview.
  2. AFCAT is simple, focus on SSB – Although I completely agree that SSB weighs more and the intake is also less there, you cannot ignore the fact the clearing AFCAT is a must for at least appearing in SSB. I have seen many serious aspirants who prepare whole year for SSB but get failed in AFCAT or CDS.
  3. AFCAT is a rocket science – AFCAT is just another exam of your life. The toughest exam is our LIFE. So, appear for this paper just like any other paper.
  4. I am Hindi medium student, I cannot qualify – See this I agree that English medium people have an edge over this paper, but I have seen many aspirants who studied in Hindi medium – but were still able to crack this exam. What they had was seriousness and zeal. For Hindi Medium – If you can understand this article, you can crack the paper.
  5. I need 6 months or a year to prepare for it – This paper is not like UPSC Civil Services or CAT – where you have to spend this much time. Anyone can easily crack it in approximately 3 months along with studies or job. What requires is the command over syllabus, practice, and general awareness.

Now, I think I have covered a broad aspect of AFCAT. As the exam is just around the corner, let me give you some useful tips.

5 last minute tips about AFCAT:

  1. Revise, Revise and Revise – As the time left is very less, revise whatever you have studied, be it the mathematics formula or general awareness. Re-read all the current affairs you prepared. Read whatever material coaching sir or seniors provided to you.
  2. Go through all the Previous Year Question Papers – This thing I mentioned in my previous article too. I gave my exam in 2014 – 1, but before that I solved all the papers right from 2011 – 1. The answers are not available anywhere – so you should solve on your own. This has 2 advantages – you will get to know the pattern and you can practice also.
  3. Gain more command over the last section of paper – There is a section which generally comes at the end of the paper – one which involves shapes. You can easily score at this section and you also don’t need to practice a lot. Understand the concept and logic behind those questions. Practice from RS Agarwal – If you don’t get this book from market, download from the link below.
  4. Read a lot – This will help you in the English section, as this carries maximum weightage and is considered the most deadly among aspirants. There are no specific resources. However, I would recommend reading The Hindu Editorials and Reader’s Digest.
  5. Read all the mathematical formulae – I would recommend you to go through whatever formulae you have prepared. If not, solve all the questions from past year papers and some difficult ones from websites like pagalguy.com

There is one section – General Awareness. This is the most uncertain section aspirants consider. However, I would recommend you to focus History and Geography more – see the previous year papers. For other sections, refer Lucent’s GK – it is the most awesome book and is to the point. Recent Current Affairs matter very less as far as AFCAT is concerned.afcat preparation tips

Now, I was getting lot of queries about this part: 😀

If anyone wants these materials, please let me know:

  1. RS Agarwal e-book
  2. Previous exam question papers
  3. GK Notes
  4. AFCAT Syllabus
  5. GK and Quant Answers to previous years papers

So, everything I have uploaded and shared with my Gmail drive. You can access this at:

RS Agarwal book you can get from Internet. You can purchase this book also – as I liked it very mush. Another substitute for this book is Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey. This is also a good one. But refer either of them – that will suffice.

My aim of writing this article is to get every aspiring candidate to the doors of IAF. I want to help every such candidate who has the passion and dream to be in Indian Air Force. So, if you guys want any more help from me.

If you want any concept you want to learn – in quant, reasoning, history, geography and other GK topic – do let me know. I will put the best of my abilities.

So, at the end I would like to mention a famous quote of Napolean:

The first virtue in a soldier is endurance of fatigue; courage is only the second virtue.

So, get ready for the challenge and be motivated always. This is the sign of a true soldier. Prepare to the fullest and enjoy your preparation.

Good Luck
