Wing Commander Puja Thakur Lead Guard of Honour for President Barack Obama. A woman officer, Wing Commander Puja Thakur, led the Guard of ceremonial Honour for US President Barack Obama at the Rashtrapati Bhavan today. President Obama was given a 21-gun salute at the forecourt of the majestic presidential palace, where President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top union ministers were also present.
Wing Commander Thakur then walked president Obama for the inspection of the tri-service guard of honour. A woman officer led the Guard of Honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan for the first time.
The gesture reflects the theme for this year’s Republic Day parade, which is “Nari Shakti (woman power)”. President Obama will be the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations tomorrow, which will see woman contingents of the army, navy and the air force marching down Rajpath for the first time.
