Pahalgam Terror Attack: 5 Tourists Feared Dead, Several Injured in Targeted Shooting by Terrorists

In a chilling act of violence, terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in the scenic Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday. According to initial reports, at least five tourists are feared dead and more than a dozen others have sustained injuries.

The attack reportedly occurred early in the day at Baisaran, a popular yet relatively isolated destination that is only accessible by foot or pony rides. Eyewitnesses stated that unidentified gunmen emerged from the woods and fired indiscriminately at the unsuspecting tourists from close range.

A female survivor, speaking to PTI over the phone, said, “My husband was shot in the head. Seven others were injured too. Please send help to evacuate them to the hospital.”

Authorities at the Pahalgam hospital confirmed to The Times of India that at least 12 tourists had been admitted for treatment. While several are stable, some have sustained serious injuries and are under intensive care.

Following the incident, security forces rushed to the area and launched a combing operation to track down the attackers. The entire region around Baisaran has been cordoned off, and additional reinforcements have been deployed.

Reacting strongly to the attack, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his shock and anguish on social media platform X.

Tourism in Pahalgam, often described as the “Valley of Shepherds,” is a major contributor to the region’s economy. The attack has sparked outrage and fear, with many demanding stronger security arrangements for tourists.

Further details, including the identities of the deceased and motives behind the attack, are still awaited as the investigation unfolds.
