Hyderabad witnessed a poignant tribute to the valor and dedication of Indian Air Force (IAF) veterans during a ceremony held at the Jal Vayu Towers as part of the Air Force Association’s annual gathering. Sixteen veteran air warriors were honored for their courageous service during critical conflicts, namely the 1965 India-China war and the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
At the heart of the event was Telangana’s irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who also has a personal connection to the IAF as a former fighter pilot. In his address, Reddy assured attendees that the state government is committed to addressing the needs and welfare of serving and retired military personnel, along with their families. Reflecting on his own experiences in uniform, he acknowledged the hardships faced by veterans and underlined the necessity for swift action to tackle their concerns.
“We have asked for a comparative statement on what other state governments are doing for their veterans,” Reddy stated, reinforcing the state’s proactive approach. His sentiment of camaraderie was evident as he remarked, “We are working within the state administration to address veterans’ concerns promptly. We are one family.”
Former IAF chief, Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, also spoke at the gathering, reminding the attendees of their vital contributions to national defense. His heartfelt words served to reinforce the gratitude the country holds for the service rendered by these brave individuals.
The atmosphere at the ceremony was charged with emotion as veterans shared stories from their wartime experiences, recalling both the challenges faced and the resilience displayed during those tumultuous times. Reddy personally presented mementos to each veteran, symbolizing recognition and appreciation for their sacrifices in the pursuit of national security.
In addition to honoring the veterans, the event featured a special presentation by Padma Shri Khader Vali, recognized as the ‘Millet Man of India’. He emphasized the importance of nutrition in maintaining health, particularly for veterans in their later years. Vali advocated for the incorporation of traditional Indian grains into diets, aligning health with longevity and well-being.
The gathering culminated in a heartfelt acknowledgement of the veterans’ courage and sacrifice, as the community came together to celebrate their legacy while reaffirming the collective commitment to support those who have served the nation.
