Lt Gen Vipul Shinghal, Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (DCIDS), visited the prestigious Indian Naval Academy (INA) from 14th to 15th November 2024. The visit aimed to enhance jointmanship and operational synergy among the three branches of the armed forces—Army, Navy, and Air Force—through integrated military training and education.
During his two-day visit, Lt Gen Shinghal interacted with Rear Admiral B Vijayan, Commandant of INA, senior officers, faculty members, and cadets. His discussions highlighted the importance of cultivating an integrated approach to military operations to address the evolving challenges of modern warfare.
Lt Gen Shinghal was briefed about the academy’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, comprehensive training modules, and its role in shaping the future leaders of the armed forces. He emphasized the need for fostering jointmanship early in the careers of young officers, reiterating that a well-coordinated and cohesive approach among the services is crucial for national security.
The Deputy Chief also addressed the cadets, underscoring the significance of inter-service cooperation and the adoption of modern technology in warfare. He encouraged them to imbibe the ethos of unity and mutual respect while developing a deeper understanding of the roles and capabilities of sister services.
Lt Gen Shinghal lauded the efforts of INA in producing world-class officers who are not only well-versed in naval warfare but also possess a keen understanding of joint operations. He called for more initiatives to strengthen cross-service collaboration and to prepare the armed forces for multi-domain operations.
The visit concluded with a tour of the academy’s training facilities and a ceremonial event to honor the Deputy Chief’s contributions to the armed forces. His visit served as a reinforcement of the vision to create a unified and highly capable defense force equipped to safeguard the nation’s interests.
