Over 26,000 Aspirants Participate in Army Recruitment Rally in Poonch after Five Years

In a significant development for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir’s border district of Poonch, over 26,000 young aspirants participated in a recruitment rally organized by the Indian Army after a five-year hiatus. The event began on November 8 at the Advance Landing Ground in Surankote, aimed at filling 307 vacancies for soldier general duty and 45 positions for clerks and tradesmen within the Territorial Army.

The recruitment rally invited candidates from 31 Tehsils of the Jammu division, encompassing areas such as Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, and Jammu districts for the soldier general duty roles. In contrast, candidates from the entire Jammu and Kashmir region were eligible to apply for the clerks and tradesmen positions. According to officials, the turnout of more than 26,000 participants highlighted the eagerness and determination of local youth to serve their nation during this 10-day selection process.

An official from the army recruitment office expressed gratification with the overwhelming participation, stating that the initiative was designed not just to provide employment opportunities, but also to inspire young people to join the armed forces. Participants underwent various physical assessments, which included a 1.6 km run, chin-ups, and other endurance tests, followed by comprehensive medical examinations and documentation checks.

The enthusiasm among local youth was palpable, with one officer from the Territorial Army commenting on the tremendous response and the passion demonstrated by the applicants. Among the hopeful candidates, around 4,000 have successfully passed the ground tests and will advance to the medical examination phase of the selection process.

Local residents praised the army for facilitating the recruitment drive in this border area, viewing it as a crucial step toward alleviating unemployment and fostering a sense of pride and patriotism amongst the youth. Syed Imtiaz Kazmi, a prominent local citizen, noted the importance of this initiative in addressing economic challenges in the region, while also reaffirming the army’s role as a pillar of support for community development.

Organizers assured that the recruitment event adhered to stringent safety protocols, ensuring the efficient management of the significant crowd present. The recruitment process is scheduled to extend for the next three days, signifying an ongoing commitment by the Indian Army to strengthen ties with local communities and provide fresh opportunities amid the backdrop of historical employment and developmental challenges in the area.

Aspirants shared their aspirations of securing positions within the esteemed forces, driven by a desire to serve their country and support their families. Mohd Asad, a first-time participant from Poonch, expressed his readiness to join the army, stating, “I am ready to serve the nation.” Similarly, Mohd Iqbal from the Haveli area conveyed his gratitude towards the army for the opportunity, underscoring the hopeful spirit prevalent among the young candidates participating in this landmark recruitment rally.
