Israeli Airstrike Hits Syrian Military Sites in Aleppo and Idlib, Injuring Soldiers

Syrian state media has reported an airstrike attributed to Israel in the early hours of Saturday, targeting areas in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib. The official SANA news agency stated that the strike occurred around 00:45 and originated from the southeast direction of Aleppo. The report highlighted that the attack resulted in injuries to several soldiers and caused material damage, although specific details regarding the extent of the damage or the identity of the injured personnel were not disclosed.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitoring group based in the United Kingdom, corroborated the report, indicating that the strikes specifically targeted military installations. According to the Observatory, the affected areas were known to host members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and pro-Iranian militia groups. This targeting underscores ongoing concerns regarding Iran’s influence in Syria, particularly in light of the Syrian conflict that has embroiled the nation since 2011.

Since the onset of the civil war, Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes in Syria, often focusing on military positions and forces aligned with Iran and its proxies, including Hezbollah. This campaign has intensified following the escalation of conflict with Hezbollah in neighboring Lebanon, leading Israeli authorities to maintain a robust military posture aimed at thwarting Iranian entrenchment in the region. While Israeli officials typically refrain from discussing specific operations, they have reiterated a policy of preventing Iran from establishing a significant foothold in Syria, reflecting the broader geopolitical tensions in the area.
