A compelling theater play capturing the essence of the 1971 Indo-Pak War was staged at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai on April 13, drawing an audience of over 800, including military dignitaries and members of the judiciary.
The play, part of the ‘OPV1971’ project, portrayed key historical events and figures from the war that led to the liberation of Bangladesh.
The performance featured a dramatic portrayal of the valor and victories by figures such as Param Vir Chakra awardee Lance Naik Albert Ekka, and depicted significant war scenarios like the Meghna River Crossing orchestrated by Major General Sagat Singh.
It also included powerful dialogues between Lt Gen A.A.K. Niazi and Maj Gen J.F.R. Jacob, encapsulating the tense moments leading to the end of the conflict.
Lt Gen AK Singh, a senior Army Commander, and Honorable Justices G Jayachandran, Mridula Bhatkar, and PN Prakash were among the high-profile attendees.
The play was curated by Maj Gen Indrabalan (Retd), who expressed that the portrayal was aimed at honoring the bravery and strategic acumen of Indian forces during the war.
The event coincided with the celebration of Vijay Diwas, marking the victory and the birth of Bangladesh, underscoring the historical significance of the 1971 war and its outcomes.
The evening concluded with a reflective note on peace and the enduring spirit of freedom, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
