In a significant development for the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) and Senior Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical Corps (AMC), embarked on his first official visit to Mumbai, marking a pivotal moment for military medical services in the region. The visit aimed at assessing and enhancing the medical and training facilities available to the armed forces personnel.
During his visit, Lt Gen Singh closely reviewed the facilities at INHS Asvini, the prestigious naval hospital, and the Early Intervention Centre, CHETNA. His inspection included a comprehensive overview of the training infrastructure at the School of Medical Assistants (SOMA) and the College of Nursing, which play crucial roles in educating and preparing medical personnel for the armed forces.
Highlighting the hospital’s commitment to cutting-edge medical services, Lt Gen Singh was briefed on the state-of-the-art facilities available at INHS Asvini. Particular attention was given to the LASIK Centre, Skin Laser Centre, and the Vestibular Lab, which are equipped with advanced technology to provide specialized care to service members. These facilities underscore the armed forces’ dedication to maintaining the health and readiness of its personnel through modern medical solutions.
Furthermore, Lt Gen Singh engaged directly with patients and the medical and dental staff during his visit, offering him insights into the patient care and interaction that form the backbone of the hospital’s operations. The visit also included a tour of the indigenous destroyer INS Mormugao, highlighting the close integration between the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities and the medical services provided by the AFMS.
