Launch of Second 25T Bollard Pull Tug, Bahubali, Marks Milestone

The launch of Bahubali and the keel laying of Yuvan represent significant milestones in India's journey towards self-sufficiency in defence production.

In a significant stride towards bolstering maritime capabilities and promoting indigenous manufacturing, the launch ceremony of the second 25T Bollard Pull Tug, Bahubali, was held on March 12, 2024, at M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited, Kolkata.

The event, graced by Cmde Atul Maini, President of SSB (Kolkata), marked a pivotal moment in India’s Make in India initiative.

The ceremony also saw the auspicious laying of the keel for the fourth 25T Bollard Pull Tug, Yuvan, symbolizing the continued momentum of India’s efforts towards self-reliance in defense production.

These tugs, constructed under the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), stand as proud flag bearers of the Make in India initiative, showcasing the nation’s commitment to fostering indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

The contract for the construction and delivery of six 25T Bollard Pull Tugs was awarded to M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (M/s TRSL), aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative of the Government of India.

These state-of-the-art tugs are poised to play a crucial role in enhancing the operational commitments of the Indian Navy, offering vital support during berthing and unberthing of naval ships and submarines, maneuvering in confined waters, and providing afloat firefighting assistance.

Moreover, the tugs boast the capability to conduct limited Search and Rescue Operations, further augmenting their utility in safeguarding maritime interests and ensuring maritime security in the region. The availability of such advanced vessels underscores the Indian Navy’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a robust and capable maritime force.
