On October 11, Agniveer Amritpal Singh from Punjab, took his own life while on sentry duty in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri sector. Notably, he was not accorded an Army Guard of Honour during his funeral.
Singh was part of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles battalion in the Poonch sector. His cremation took place in his hometown in the Mansa district of Punjab, without the traditional Army Guard of Honour.
This omission has led to expressions of dismay from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other opposition parties in the state.
The White Knight Corps clarified that due to the self-inflicted nature of Singh’s death, neither a guard of honor nor a military funeral was provided, adhering to the established protocol.
The Indian Army extended its heartfelt sympathies to Singh’s grieving family.
