In a hit and run case involving a flight lieutenant with the Indian Air Force, an elderly couple out on a morning stroll at the Bareilly Air Force station in Izzat Nagar were crushed to death by the speeding car of the officer on Monday morning. The woman officer, family members of the victims have alleged, then fled the spot leaving the husband and wife to struggling for life and eventually succumb to their injuries.
Police have registered a case of negligent driving and are investigating the matter. Senior cops told TOI that the name of the officer would be revealed after consultation with senior IAF officials and on completion of the inquiry.
Nathu Baksh, 60, and his 55-year-old wife Tameezan, both residents of Aslam Mian Colony under Izzat Nagar police station, were taking their routine early morning stroll when the accident happened. A speeding car coming from the opposite direction and reportedly driven by the officer lost control and hit them head on. As the profusely bleeding victims were rushed by local residents to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead, the officer allegedly fled the spot leaving her car behind.
