Power and Duty of a Subedar Major SM Saab

In the Indian Army, the position of subedar major (SM) holds a significant role, despite being junior to a commissioned officer like a lieutenant. SMs are highly experienced and are respectfully addressed as SM Sahab. They have the capability to lead either a single unit or a headquarters with troops under their command. It is noteworthy that subedar majors and other Junior Commissioned Officers in the Indian Army are considered equivalent to Group-B gazetted officers in India.
