It is seen that many candidates are confused about the category in which they fall while they go for SSB. Although many do have idea that what their category is yet they are confused on some or the other aspect of their category. Hence, this article aims at clearing all your doubts regarding the same.
Fresher Candidate at SSB
When you say that you are a fresher it means you have never been through the process of SSB. Here one thing to note is that when you are a fresher then it means that you have never visited any board ever. That means you never been to any of the SSB of Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. When you are a fresher you are asked and grouped separately in a different group which generally consists of all fresher candidates, however at times you might be grouped with repeaters also but this is very rare and happens only when there are not enough fresher candidates to make a group.
Screen Out Candidate at SSB
This category is for those candidates who have been to the SSB previously for any of the four services and were eliminated after Stage One testing itself. Only those candidates who were eliminated in the first stage and have never been through the stage two testing are called the screen out candidates. These candidates are grouped in a different group at the time of stage one testing in which only screened out candidates are placed. However once the screened out candidate clears the stage one testing he/she might be placed with the freshers only for stage two testing as they are also new to the stage two testing just like freshers.
Not Recommended Candidates at SSB
Here one thing to note is that in SSB they prefer calling not recommended instead of conference out. This is the category of those candidates who cleared Stage one and have been through stage two testing but couldn’t make it to the final recommendation. Thus they have been through the six day procedure and were not selected in the end. These candidates are generally placed in a separate group. You will be called a not recommended candidate even if you are going for a service for the first time but have been to other service’s SSB before and have been through stage two.
Recommended Candidate at SSB
These candidates are those who have been through stage one, stage two testing and were recommended by the board. You will be grouped with the not recommended candidates only.
Merit out Candidate at SSB
These are the candidates who were recommended but couldn’t make it in the final all India merit and thus couldn’t join the course for which they were recommended. They are also placed with the not recommended candidates.
Few more points:
- Once you have been through stage two testing you are called a repeater. Thus irrespective of the fact that you are not recommended, recommended, or merit out you’ll be termed as a repeater only.
- If you have been through stage two testing but in your previous attempt you were screened out then too you will be placed with repeaters and NOT with the screened-out candidates.
