Latest Attack on Army Kills Three Jawans in J&K’s Pampore

In the latest attack on the Indian Soldiers in J&K, three jawans were martyred when their administrative convoy was incessantly attacked by militants in Pampore on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

At the site of the ambush, in addition to the Army, there was the CRPF on Road Opening duty and the Jammu and Kashmir police’s Special Operations Group (SOG).

The Army was unable to fire in return as it was a civilian area and there were people around taking advantage of which, the militants fled from the spot.

Two of the deceased personnel belong to 51 Rashtriya Rifles and the other is from 36 Rashtriya Rifles.

The area was cordoned off immediately after the attack and the security forces have recovered one AK magazine with 20 bullets in it until now. The J&K police and troops have launched a massive house to house search operation in the area to nab the attackers.

According to eye witnesses, the militants were riding motorcycles and the ambush lasted for about two minutes.

Army convoys have been attacked several times along this stretch of the highway which is used to carry supplies to the Srinagar-based 15 Corps that acts as the nerve centre to battle militancy in the valley.

This is the second major attack in Pampore this year after 8 CRPF troopers were killed in a similar ambush in June.

The number of gunmen involved in the attack is yet unknown, but they are believed to have been from the militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned the killing of the three jawans in Pampore and shared her sympathies with the deceased men’s families.
