Subedar (retd), Ramphal Singh Suhag is a proud man. His son Dalbir Singh Suhag, leading the Indian Army, one of the mightiest in the world, has eliminated several terrorists, operating from the Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
While the political class is leaving no stone unturned to take credit of the strikes, one of main heroes of the operation, the Army Chief, who not only planned this operation, but also kept close eye on it from South Block has been a silent crusader till now and hasn’t even spoken a single word till date after the strikes.
However his father, himself has been a part of the three wars – in 1962, 65 and 71 – against Pakistan and China, knows that his son is capable of serving the nation at any given occasion by taking the challenge head on.
“I am proud of my son for this great achievement. I remember that during my service days, our hands were tied and we couldn’t gave befitting reply to Pakistan in this short and surgical manner. I am proud that my son allowed his soldiers to carry out these strikes without getting into a full-fledged conflict. Of course political will of this government indeed backed my son and I congratulate our PM Narendra Modi, ” Ramphal Singh told Bhaskar.com in his ancestral village in Jhajjar’s Bishaan.
Ramphal recalled one incident of 1971 when he was guarding border in Punjab’s Fazilka.
“In 1971, Pakistan was supposed to open the Western Front in response to India’s action in then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). But before the full fledged war broke out, Pakistanis used to open fire at their will and they used to mock us saying that you can’t fire, your orders will come from Delhi while ours are in our pockets. I am proud that under my son, Indian Army doesn’t have to wait for orders anymore,” added Ramphal.

Ramphal isn’t the only one going over roof, in fact the entire village is ecstatic about Suhag’s feat which left Pakistan establishment and army to explain a lot to their people.
Sunita Devi, sister of the Army Chief told Bhaskar that whole village is going gaga after surgical strikes and people are rushing to our house with sweets.
Suhag’s mother, Ishri Devi also revealed that Suhag has been a fitness freak since childhood and had joined Indian Army in 1974. For a middle class family like Ramphal’s who was only a Subedar in Army, making his son an officer in the army was indeed an achievement.
Ramphal lastly spoke about his struggle to make his son an officer.
“I was serving at borders. Therefore, I hardly saw him growing. I would see him once a year, but whenever I would come back on leave, I would just tell to remain focus on goal which was to serve Indian Army as an officer. I must say he was very laborious and didn’t disappoint me,” said Ramphal.
