A Naval cadet (identity withheld) had high hopes when he arrived at the National Defence Academy (NDA) two years ago. Apparently, his exhilaration collapsed into a struggle to cope with academy’s disciplined environment.
The cadet went missing for two days after getting discharged from the Military Hospital (MH), Khadki. He was expected to report at the academy on that day itself, but he did not return in the stipulated time.
The worried NDA authorities immediately alerted his parents residing in Kothrud, a few km from the academy. They also lodged a formal missing complaint with Khadakwasala police station.
The police team swung into action and tried to trace his mobile location but in vain. Fortunately, on Sunday morning, the cadet returned to the academy.
The police sources said the cadet had received some injuries and hence he was admitted to the hospital.
“The cadet is brilliant in the academics, but it seems that he is struggling to cope with the physical training. However, we are yet to confirm the exact reason behind his act. It will be cleared once we record his statement on Monday,” said an officer from the police station.

Meanwhile, NDA sources told Sakal Times that the cadet was homesick and hence did not turn up to the academy.
‘His (cadet’s) residence is in the vicinity of the academy. Secondly, he must be having his set of friends. Instead of reporting to the wing, he preferred to spend some extra time with his friends outside the academy,” a source said.
The NDA sources said the cadet may face disciplinary action from the authorities. “The quantum of punishment cannot be divulged at this juncture,” the sources said.
The cadet’s father is a businessman, while his mother is a housewife, the police said.
