In a shocking incident that has left the community in disbelief, thieves targeted the home of a retired army officer in Jabalpur. The burglary occurred while 65-year-old Yogendra Tiwari, a resident of Lal Bahadur Shastri Ward in Gohalpur, was away attending to family matters following the recent passing of his mother, Shanti Tiwari.
Tiwari secured his residence before traveling to Belkheda for his mother’s final rites, but unbeknownst to him, while he was away, a group of intruders cut open the back door of his house and systematically ransacked the property. The stolen items included a treasure trove of valuables: gold jewellery estimated to be worth Rs 6.5 lakh, alongside cash totaling Rs 1.4 lakh. Among the specific items taken were a gold necklace, a gold earring, a gold “mangalsutra,” five gold rings, silver anklets, an army medal, and six gold-plated stars—priceless mementoes from Tiwari’s distinguished service.
Upon returning home to find his residence in complete disarray, Tiwari was devastated to discover that not only had his financial belongings been stolen, but also irreplaceable symbols of his military service. Faced with this distressing situation, he promptly contacted the Gohalpur police to report the incident.
Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the burglary, having begun their efforts by reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity in hopes of identifying the culprits. However, as of now, no significant leads have surfaced that could aid in apprehending those responsible for the crime. The local community is rallying around Tiwari, expressing outrage and sympathy in light of this disheartening event, highlighting the loss not just of valuables but also of trust and security in their neighborhood.
