Commodore Soni Thomas has taken over as the commanding officer of INS Shikra, a premier naval air station of the Indian Navy in Mumbai, succeeding Commodore Venkatesh R. Iyer. The change of command took place on December 30, 2024, during an impressive ceremonial parade, symbolizing a seamless transition of leadership.
Cmde Soni Thomas, a highly experienced Sea King and MH-60R qualified pilot, brings a wealth of operational and leadership expertise to his new role. Prior to this appointment, he commanded key naval platforms, including INS Gharial, INAS 336, and INS Teg, showcasing his versatile and distinguished career in the Indian Navy.
INS Shikra, strategically located in Mumbai, plays a vital role in supporting the Navy’s air operations and maintaining readiness in maritime security.
