Kishtwar Encounter: Three Army Personnel Injured as Operation Against Terrorists Continues

In a significant military engagement on Sunday in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, at least three Army personnel sustained injuries during an ongoing encounter with terrorists in a remote forest area. The operation is currently active, with security forces conducting efforts to neutralize the threat in the region.

Reports indicate that the injuries occurred following an initial firefight that took place around 11 am in a dense forest area identified as Keshwan, where joint search parties from the Army and local police intercepted a group of terrorists. Initial assessments suggest that three to four terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire between the militants and security forces.

The encounter is linked to a preceding incident earlier in the week, specifically on Thursday, when two Village Defence Guards (VDGs) were tragically killed in the same district. The deceased individuals have been identified as Nazir Ahmad and Kuldip Kumar, both residents of Ohli Kuntwara, who were attacked while tending to their livestock in the Munzala Dhar (Adhwari) area. Concern arose when the two men failed to return home, prompting local families and community members to alert the authorities. The situation heightened tensions in the community, leading to security forces launching search operations in the surrounding areas.

The terrorist group known as “Kashmir Tigers” has since claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they executed the killings in the name of Islam and the pursuit of freedom for Kashmir. In light of these violent incidents, security measures have intensified, with police and military forces ramping up their presence and vigilance to ensure the safety of local residents.

As the situation unfolds, the local population remains on alert, and further updates are anticipated from the ongoing operational developments in Kishtwar.
