Tragic Attack in Gulmarg Claims Lives of Soldiers and Civilians Amid Rising Violence in Kashmir

In a tragic event that has left the region reeling, terrorists attacked an Indian Army vehicle in the Botapathri area of Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday evening, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and two civilian porters. This incident comes at a time of escalating violence in the Kashmir Valley, raising significant concerns about security for both locals and migrant workers.

The attack occurred just hours after another act of violence in the Batgund Tral area of Pulwama district, where a laborer, Pritam Singh from Uttar Pradesh, was shot and injured. This marks the third incident in just a week targeting non-local laborers, further heightening fears among migrant workers in the region.

Political leaders have condemned the recent surge in terror attacks, calling on the newly formed government to take urgent and effective measures to ensure the safety and security of all residents. Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti voiced particular concern over the increasing pressure on non-locals to abandon the region.

The attack in Gulmarg follows a deadly assault on October 20, when terrorists targeted a tunnel construction site along the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal district, resulting in the deaths of a doctor and six construction workers.

Coincidentally, this latest violence coincided with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s visit to New Delhi, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Abdullah presented a resolution aimed at the early restoration of statehood to the Union Territory and addressed critical issues, including the deteriorating security situation and ongoing development projects in the region.

As tensions rise, the new government in Jammu and Kashmir faces significant challenges in its efforts to restore peace and stability amid the ongoing violence. The recent events have ignited fears and uncertainty among residents and migrant workers alike, prompting urgent calls for action to safeguard the lives of those in the region.
