Cadet Hardik Garg, has made his mark by securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 2 in the prestigious UPSC NDA Exam. Hailing from the Yamunanagar district of Haryana, Hardik’s journey to this achievement has been a blend of dedication, discipline, and unwavering support from his family and mentors.
Early Life and Inspiration
Hardik’s roots lie in a family of educators and businessmen. His father, a senior lecturer at MMDU Ambala, ensured that education was always a priority. Despite coming from a joint family predominantly involved in business, Hardik found his calling in the military.
He was captivated by the lifestyle and discipline associated with the armed forces and decided to pursue this dream from an early age.
The RIMC Journey
In 2019, Hardik joined the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in class 8, a decision that would shape his future. The rigorous environment of RIMC provided him with a firsthand experience of military life, fostering essential skills of leadership, discipline, and teamwork.
Cadet life at RIMC follows a strict and disciplined routine, which played a crucial role in Hardik’s development. His day would begin with the reveille at 5:00 AM, followed by an intense PT and drill session aimed at building physical endurance and energy. The nutritious breakfasts at the Cadet Mess fueled the cadets for their academic classes, which ran till 2:00 PM. A strong focus on group discussions and public speaking during these classes helped sharpen their communication skills.
Post lunch, cadets would engage in physical activities, from workouts to various sports, enhancing their coordination of mind and body. After the evening roll call at 6:00 PM, study time or “preps” would begin, allowing cadets to focus on their academics before winding down the day with lights out at 10:30 PM. This routine, combined with RIMC’s focus on holistic development through inter-section competitions, educational visits, and more, prepared Hardik for the challenges ahead.

Overcoming Challenges and Preparing for the NDA Exam
Hardik’s preparation journey for the NDA exam was not without its hurdles. He studied diligently alongside his coursemates and mentors, who fostered a supportive and motivating environment. This camaraderie played a significant role in keeping spirits high and pushing each other towards excellence.
His first attempt at the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview came with a setback when he was screened out. It was a challenging moment, but Hardik’s commandant and peers at RIMC stood by him, encouraging him to persevere. He took this experience as a learning opportunity and prepared even harder for his second attempt.
Hardik attributes much of his success to his roommate and best friend, Anmol, who secured AIR-1 in NDA 152. Together, they refined their preparation strategies, working on areas like knowledge, communication, and approach to situational challenges. With Anmol’s support and his own determination, Hardik left no stone unturned, ensuring a thorough preparation for his second SSB attempt. His efforts paid off when he successfully cleared the SSB interview and secured AIR-2 in the NDA exam.
