In a groundbreaking achievement, Captain Fatima Wasim of the Siachen Warriors has been officially recognized as the first woman medical officer to be stationed at an operational post on the Siachen Glacier, as announced by the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps.
Demonstrating exceptional strength and determination, Captain Fatima Wasim was inducted at an impressive altitude of 15,200 feet. Her successful deployment followed an intensive training regimen at the Siachen Battle School, a testament to her unwavering spirit and high motivation, as lauded by the Fire and Fury Corps in their post.
This historic induction follows closely on the heels of another significant milestone earlier this month. Captain Geetika Koul, from the Snow Leopard Brigade, marked her name in the annals of the Indian Army as the first woman medical officer to be deployed at Siachen. Located at the world’s highest battlefield, her posting came after successfully completing induction training at the Siachen Battle School.
The Siachen Glacier, situated near the Indo-Pak Line of Control, holds the distinction of being the highest-altitude battle site in the world. Not only is it the largest glacier in India, but it also ranks as the second-largest globally. Known for its extreme conditions, the Siachen Glacier represents the pinnacle of battleground challenges, making these achievements by Captain Wasim and Captain Koul all the more significant.
