On April 29th, 2023, the Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai held its Passing Out Parade, which saw the commissioning of numerous gentlemen cadets and lady cadets into the Indian Army. These cadets, who belonged to the SSC-114 & SSC(W)-28 batches, had undergone rigorous training over a period of 11 months to reach this momentous occasion. The passing out parade marked the culmination of their hard work, determination, and dedication, and their dreams of becoming officers and leading from the front were finally realized.

The Passing Out Parade was graced by the presence of Gen SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, COAS, Bangladesh Army, who reviewed the parade and congratulated the cadets for their impeccable performance. In total, 186 cadets, including 29 cadets from Bhutan, passed out from OTA Chennai, marking the successful completion of their military training.
What is OTA Chennai?
The Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai provides comprehensive military training to ensure the physical, mental, and psychological development of the cadets. Those who have been selected through the Service Selection Boards (SSB interviews) report to the Academy during the months of April and October, usually on the second Thursday of these months, and are put through a 49-week military training program, divided into two semesters of 23 weeks each with a three-week term break. At any given time, the Academy has two courses running, with a cadet strength of around 730-750.
In addition to the rigorous military training, the cadets are exposed to troop and individual games/sports, intensive physical training, and a range of co-curricular activities. The Academy strives to instill leadership qualities in its cadets, which are essential for the finest profession in the world, the Armed forces. The faculty at the Academy also focuses on developing the communication skills, decision-making capabilities, and psychological conditioning of the cadets, ensuring their all-round growth and development.
