10 Points to Know About Prithvi II Missile

The Indian Armed Forces have some of the best and accurate missile systems that have enough capability to deter the enemies. DRDO has been deeply indulged in the task of raising such missiles with enhanced technology. Agni and Prithvi are the missiles that are known for their accuracy and perfect target hitting in the world. Talking about Prithvi missile, the missile provides muscles to the Armed Forces and is a boon for the nation. It is recently test-fired by Indian Army as a part of user trail at Chandipur range in Odisha. The sources reported that there was a plan of holding 2 trails, but as the first trail was successfully conducted, the 2nd trails was taken down due to some technical errors. Some of the key points that all aspirants must know about the missile are as follows.

  1. It is the first missile developed by India’s DRDO under IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme)
  2. It is a short range surface-to-surface ballistic missile.
  3. It is a single stage, liquid fueled, twin engine missile and has a special feature of deceiving anti-ballistic missiles.
  4. Indian Strategic Force Command of the Armed Forces inducted it in 2003.
  5. It has a length of 9 meters and a strike range of 350 kms.
  6. It was firstly test fired in 1996 and its developmental stages competed in 2004.
  7. It can carry nuclear warhead of 500-1000 kgs weight and its path is maintained by Advanced Inertial Guidance System that tracks its trajectory to give a precise target hit.
  8. The test was carried out by the Strategic Force Command and was monitored by DRDO.
  9. DRDO tracked its trajectory using its radars, electro-optical tracking system and telemetry stations on Odisha coast.
  10. It was developed for Indian Air Force as the primary user.

Conclusion – DRDO has given many ace warheads and weapons to India and Prtihvi II is one of them. The missile is a nuclear missile and has advanced technology for maneuverable trajectory targeting that makes it perfect targeting weapon. Several other missiles and weapons are under construction and Indian is currently focusing on advancement of them. The modernization of the Armed Forces is the need of the hour, keeping the status maintained with the neighboring nations.
