Indian Army Captain Ashwani Kumar, 26, Dies In Avalanche in Ladakh

In a saddening turn of events, India lost one of its courageous heroes on November 13. Indian Army Captain Ashwani Kumar of Ladakh Scouts lost his life, while 15 other soldiers were rescued after an avalanche struck a patrol party at Siachen glacier in Ladakh sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Ashwani Kumar was the Regimental Medical Officer who died in the line of duty while defending the Indian Borders in J&K.

“A patrol party of Army came under an avalanche in the southern area of Siachen glacier yesterday,” Udhampur-based defence spokesman Colonel S.D. Goswami. He further added, a rescue operation was launched immediately and 15 soldiers were saved. Captain Ashwani Kumar

Regimental Medical Officer Captain Ashwini Kumar could not be saved and his body was retrieved from under the avalanche, he said. His body was brought at his residence in Shanti Nagar today afternoon. Capt Kumar’s family comprising of his parents and an younger brother are grief-stricken and inconsolable.

Capt Ashwani Kumar, born on August 27, 1989, aged 26 represented 3 Ladakh Scouts, was a bachelor and hailed from Patiala in Punjab. Kumar did his MBBS from the Government Medical College, Patiala, and was commissioned into the Indian Army on January 6, 2015.

The message read along with the photograph of late Officer Captain Ashwani Kumar – General Dalbir Singh, COAS and All Ranks of Indian Army express heartfelt condolences to the grief stricken family of Captain Ashwani Kumar who laid down his life in the line of duty while defending the Indian Borders in J&K.
