All You Need To Know About The Indian Army - Part 2

Hello, Warriors! In Part-1 of the topic, Iโ€™ve covered the various commands under which the army is divided. In this article, Iโ€™ll be talking about the organisation of the troops depending on the nature of their work. Based on the same, army is divided into Arms and Services. Soldiers of various ranks are trained in a particular Arm or Service and they continue to serve in it throughout their career. However, basic military training in handling and use of personnel weapons and small arms is the same for all.

Corps of Army Air Defence Gopalpur, Odisha
Regiment of Artillery The School of Artillery
Corps of Engineers The College of Military Engineering, Dapodi.
Corps of Signals Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow

4. The troops that provide the logistical support to the arms are called Services. The services consists of The Army Service Corps (ASC), Army Ordnance Corps, Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and the famous, Army Medical Corps (AMC).

5. The ASC is responsible for procurement, storage and distribution of supplies, for mechanical as well as animal transportation and air dispatch.

7. The EME repairs and maintains all major and minor electrical, electronic and mechanical devices that the army uses and the AMC provides medical and hospital cover for the entire army.

8. The engineers provide the mobility to the fighting arms (e.g. Mine Clearing, Bridges, Obstacle Clearance, Bunker Demolition) while denying mobility to the enemy (e.g. Mine Laying, Demolitions, Obstacle Construction). The signals provide physical dispatch of messages and line and wireless communication. The Air Defence Corps provides support against enemy air attack and the Aviation Corps provides aerial reconnaissance and aerial observation posts, besides providing rapid mobility to commanders in the field.

9. Besides these major services, there are several other services such as Intelligence Corps, Corps of Military Police (CMP), Army Postal Service (APS), Army Education Corps (AEC), Remount and Veterinary Corps (RVC), Army Dental Corps (ADC), Army Physical Training Corps and Legal Department (JAG- Judge Advocate General).

The sub-units, units and formations of each of the arms and services are organised and equipped to carry out their role in the battle. The fighting arms- Armoured Corps and The Infantry engage the enemy in actual direct combat. The Artillery provides the supporting artillery fire while the Services provide necessary arrangements for the Arms to carry out specific tasks and missions.

With this piece of information, I hope things regarding the organisation of the army are pretty clear and will help you holding this extra info for your SSB coincidences.

Good luck!
