What Is ADGPI – Additional Directorate General of Public Information Indian Army

If you are on Facebook, you must have seen Indian Army official page on FB names as ADGPI Indian Army. Now most of us will think why ADGPI and why not simply use Indian army. We hope most of us are curious to know what ADGPI stands for and what is the role of ADGPI in Indian Army. In this article, we are covering some details on what is ADGPI and what is its role in the Indian army.

ADGPI stands for Additional Directorate General of Public Information, under Directorate General of Military Intelligence, deals with Public Relation (PR) activities, Media Relations and Monitoring, Info release, Publicity, Image Projection and Perception Management (PM). It primarily aims to establish conditions that lead to confidence in our Army and its readiness to conduct ops in peacetime and war. An officer of the rank of a Major General heads the Additional Directorate and is assisted by the Deputy Director General. The Directorate is divided into two sections, dealing with “Media relations” and “Information operations” respectively

Duties of ADGPI – Additional Directorate General of Public Information

  • Formulate Indian Army’s PR and PM Policies.
  • Enhance the image and protect the reputation of the Army.
  • Responsible for the conduct of perception management in both peace & war.ADGPI Indian Army
  • Give information to COAS, VCOAS, DGMI & DGMO with respect to important issues.
  • Act as Media and Perception Management Advisor to the COAS.
  • Army Spokesman on operation related matters.
  • Hosting and maintenance of Indian Army Website (Portal).
  • Manage media relations.
  • Implement and issue directives related to Army PR and PM Policy.
  • Monitoring and Analysis of Print, Electronic and Cyber Media.
  • Issue press releases, status report / updates and rebuttals / rejoinders appearing in the mass media.
  • Interact with Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs to formulate perception management policy.
  • Interact with Min of Information and Broadcasting to implement perception management campaign and perception management themes.
  • Interact with GOC-in-C Commands.
  • Represent Army in inter ministerial groups with respect to perception management.
