ICG Exam Tips

Twice every year the Indian Coast Guard announces its vacancies for the post of assistant commandant. The selection process is quiet similar to that of SSB but it is not identical. Here are some tips related to the Indian Coast Guard Exam:

Indian Coast Guard Exam Tips

  1. Practice a lot of reasoning questions and do them fast. Reasoning or OIR test is the first test conducted in the Coast Guard Exam, whether you pass or fail in this decides whether you can stay further for the testing or not. Hence clearing this test is very important.
  2. Have a clear mind, free of pre-conceived ideas when you go for PP&DT and other Psych Tests. So write what you actually see in the picture, or what you actually feel in case of words and SRT.
  3. Make sure your writing in the tests is clear and legible. Under pressure many times people make a lot of mistakes but you should try to keep your writing as neat as possible. For doing so practice beforehand to write fast and neat.

  4. Keep yourself abreast with the latest events and happenings. This will help you in the group discussions and Interview in the FSB stage. It’ll give you confidence regarding lecturette also.
  5. Start running or going for a jog if you have cleared you PSB. This will help in maintaining a basic level of fitness, which is essential for the FSB.
  6. In the GD of PP&DT don’t try to push everybody to agree to your story, give logical points and convince them, if you feel that your story is not good enough there is no harm in supporting somebody else’s story.
  7. Be confident and calm in the GD, lecturette and while answering questions in the interview. Being calm will increase your confidence and you can think more logically.
  8. Think twice before answering any question in the interview, it’s better to take time and answer rather than giving absurd replies.
  9. Being friendly with your group will increase your chances, hence be supportive and nice to everybody, however this doesn’t means to be nice on your own cost.
  10. In the command task call only the person who you think is doing well in the other group tasks.
  11. When you are called as a subordinate in the command task , do only the thing which your commander asks you to do.
  12. In the group tests help the weak members to climb up the plank, or wall or help them to speak in the GD.
  13. Keep your voice very normal in the GD, increase the level whenever required but make sure that you don’t sound like shouting or rude.
  14. Be enthusiastic and cheerful all the time. A cheerful person is admired by all.
  15. Dress according to the purpose. While you are not on the ground for the Group Tests don’t roam around in your tracks. Make sure you are dressed decently all the time.
  16. Follow the rules strictly which are told to you in the beginning.
