How to Join Indian Army as an Officer after 10+2

After +2, almost every average Indian youth faces a dilemma about the choice of his future career. But unfortunately, armed forces as a suitable career opportunity is often neglected. The Indian armed forces offers a bright career for deserving youths in its officer cadre and also offers you a  respectable position in the society.

Defence aspirants between the age of 16.5 and 19 Years have two entry schemes for joining Indian army-

  • NDA: For entry to the fighting arms of Indian army
  • 10+2 TES: For entry to technical arms like Corps of Signals, EME Core etc. 
Join NDA Pune after 12th

NDA , Khadakwasla

The selection is based on the results of a written exam conducted by UPSC and the SSB.

The shortlisted candidates are called for the SSB Board where their personality and potential for becoming an army officer is tested by three different methods.
  • Educational Qualification: 12th class pass of the 10+2 pattern of school education or equivalent examination conducted by a state education board or a university. All those who are about to write +2 exams are also eligible to apply.
  • No: of vacancies: Indian army- 195
  • Age: The candidates must be between the age of 16.5 and 19 Years
  • Month of Notification: March and October
  • Martial Status: Unmarried Men
  • Duration of Training: The selected cadets are given a three years training at NDA, Khadakwasla and are given a degree by the JNU. After the training, they are send to IMA, Dehradun for getting pre commission training .The entire expenses  during their stay at NDA shall be beared by the Govt. of India.
  • Career in the Army: This entry is suited for those who likes to join army as a soldier. The cadets who finish their training successfully are absorbed into fighting arms like Infantry, Armored or Artillery.

How to Join Indian Army as an Officer after 10+2

10+2 Technical Entry Scheme TES

This is a technical entry scheme for all those who aspires to join Indian army as an Engineer. This entry scheme mainly provided entry to Corps of Signals, Corps of Military engineers or Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Corps. This  has a greater benefit as it includes study of B.tech at one of the most prestigious institutions of India and all expenses shall be beard by the Govt of India.
  • Age: The candidate must be between the age of 16 and 19 Years.
  • Educational Qualification: 10+2 PCM with an aggregate of 70% to apply for army.Only 12 th pass out aspirants may apply.
  • Martial Status: Unmarried Men.
  • Month of Notification: Usually April and September.
  • Training period: 4 Yrs Btech at MCEME/ MCE/ MCTE. 1 Year pre-commission training at OTA Gaya. Total duration of 5 Years.
  • Career in the Army: The cadets who finish their training successfully are absorbed into the EME Corps, Corps of Engineers or the Corps of Signals.
Both these entry schemes are suited for young defense aspirants but getting recommended from SSB is the real job. So try to cultivate OLQ’s in yourself even before you go to SSB.
