We all know that Indian army is facing a shortage of 10,000 officers but still the percentage of candidates those who passes SSB interview is just four to five percent. SSB Interview process is a long five day process due to which Indian army is capable of conducting only 60 batches per year.
What are the challenges with present SSB Inteview process
- Its a long five days proccess with two different stages.
- Number of batches handled by Army are 60 per year, but the number of applications are increasing day by day which makes each batch croweded and hardly unmanageable.
- Rate of in-take is very low.
- Process is not transparent.
- Less number of Selection centres.
- Poor adminstaration process due to increase in number of applications.
What IIM-A would suggest to improve SSB Interview Process
- Suggest to improving the induction rate.
- Improvement in techniques used in the selection and suggest refinement in it with alternative tools
- Officer-like qualities tested in the candidates for the SSB process would also be reviewed by the study and they will be made relevant as per changing socio-economic environment.
- Review the officer selection process of some foreign armies including the US and the UK besides other major forces in the world.
- The study would also help in evolving a “fair and more transparent” selection system for the force.
- The study would be completed by the premier management institute in three phases in one year.
i think it must be changed and improved immediately because shortage of officers affect our defence power which is very important
In My point of view ssb procedure will remain the same
bcoz they are taking best of the best to serve the country so it have to be tough
yes the current procedure should be change so that each aspirant can get immediate selection and if no then can make a new preaparation earlier.
and procedure is long these OLQs can be tested by minimizing the phases.
Process is perfect as it is..i think there is no need for any single change..!!
Change is required in everything , then only we can judge weather the change is good or not.
yes…change is necessary coz when there r more candidates short listed, during screening candidates are washed out and its same as not selected. might b many among these are born to b officers. n transparency is must as candidates who hav not been selected or recommended will get a chance to improve themselves for the next interview
Its good to hear about procedure change …as in these 60 years Indian has changed a lot… let say Mentality, Psychology, Standered of living has deviated a lot, scenario has changed, thoughts and most important …REASONS TO JOIN ARMY has changed … so it was really necessary to adopt new change .
I think , d suggestion of bringing transparency is right. .
n 1 mor thng, that a rejctd guy/gal r never told ,that where they r lagging. .
i m nt teling that it shud be told exctly but at least it shud b told in sum kinda hints that where v people r lagging. .
evry weaknes cn b overcum. 1nce v cum to knw tht,
and
to overcome the shortage of officers in Indian army.Indian army should increase the age limit to 6 and should provide more entries to commerce students
well certainly the long process must b changed..as it too hectic for candidates as well as the army too for testing for only some qualities for 5 days..
but candidates must not be told that y were they out b/c by clarifying this it would reveal all d parameters of selection n then even d undeserving candidates might crept in between..Natural OLQ is a must thing..!!no need to build it artificially using coaching or any other source..and candidates must try to maintain their ethics right since their childhood..its not like a notorious can become a GENTLEMAN..
ALL D BEST TO EVERYONE..!! 🙂 🙂
If these 5 day ssb procedure is HECTIC for you, then how are you going to survive the extreme training of the defence and the dangerous and difficult duties/posts after being commisioned?
I don’t feel that those 5 days of ssb are hectic, they are fun, tossing and testing your abilities in five days. This is defence interview and not any other organization’s interview. It is supposed to be like this.
JAI HIND.
Yes acording to my opinion there shuld be some changes in the selection process.like duration of ssb nd we shuld check all olq’ s in short dueration.nd shuld be allow in hindi.according to my expirience they dont give priority those person gives their ssb in hindi.they have less possibility to get recommended…..they have to invent new tec to grow up selection percentage….thak u..
there should b a feed back to the candidates for there rejection this may help them to develop there olq’s which they are lagging behind as the selection board just checks weather there are seeds of olq’s in the candidate so that they can grow and build them in the training ,so its necessary for the new process of selection as they get to know there reason for rejection
Variety adds spice to life and change is for the best.
So i strongly recommend that time duration for the SSB interview should be reduced as a result of which more and more aspirants gets the fair chance to prove themselves .And as a result of which the deficiency of officers in the armed forces can be healed easily
jai hind!
Look the current method has lasted for more than 50 years which shows that it is good enough to select a candidate .Yes we need to take a move on from this method and for that we can also check how the other countries forces are recruited.Transparency of selection should be the main motto.Along with that WE(Indian Armed forces especially army)need to take a look into thier own websites as it facing severe problem. For that they need to take more Techies of IT or CSE guys .So, that they can develope and maintain websites too.So that no one will get any problem..And more over the idea of Sir(Mr.Bikram Singh) should be implemented in very less time other wise it remains the same i.e, in Defense aspirant’s mind(“why am not selected even after good performance”,”why the other person has got selected as he did reasonably less than me(Defense aspirant)”,”What went wrong”,”what are the areas of improvement”.,And how can a person is not fit enough for ssb procedure as he was conference out before the week.”,”In week time how a persons mindset can change and how he hasnt selected”),.These questions are endless in defense aspirant mind who is either screened out or conference out.I hope with transparency in procedure will make sure that the Defense aspirant can asses whether he is fit enough for defense field or not.If he’s not then he can change the course of carrier .So the IDEA of Sir(Mr.Bikram singh) should be implemented very quickly and i urge our officer to take this issue as serious and implement it in very less time.”BUT IRRESPECTIVE OF THE PROCEDURE WE SHOULDN’T EXPECT THE NEW THING WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING .WE ALSO HAVE TO REASSESS OURSELVES.WE NEED TO CHANGE THE MINDSET OF US ALSO.WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO PERSUADE OUR OPPORTUNITY TOWARDS THE FORCES”.JAIHIND
I think this senior faculty of IIM Ahemdabad only has initiated the rule of cut of marks in SSC tech and who knows in TGC entry as well.
some changes are needed in present system
This is going to be a great turning point for our country …proper dilution in tattoo norms can be done like US army. Though people with tattoos are more desirable and focused!
Doin 6 chin ups and 25 sit ups not a big achievement it won’t shows ones physical strength they can be doubled in numbers
I THINK YOU FORGOT THE MAIN MOTTO OF THE SELECTION PROCEDURE…. THEY WANT ORDINARY MEN WHO CAN DO EXTRA-ORDINARY TASKS…. 6 CHIN-UPS AND 25 SITUPS ARE EASY FOR A FIT PERSON AND THAT’S WHAT FORCES ARE ALL ABOUT
I think , d suggestion of bringing transparency is right. .
