History of SSB

The concept of SSBs originated during World War I when the need for selecting the right people for military roles became evident. The United States Army pioneered the use of psychological tests for recruitment, followed by Germany and the United Kingdom.

In India, the War Office Selection Board (WOSB) was established in Dehradun in 1943 to select officers for the Indian Armed Forces using psychological techniques. The WOSB later evolved into the current SSB system.
